For students who enjoy cooking for a good cause, this is the perfect club! Club members have the wonderful opportunity to help people in the community, impacting their welfare and happiness. Warm a heart by serving a warm meal! InTeRaCT Founded 1996 Ms. Anna Helfman WINNETKA Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people. Members of the New Trier chapter carry out at least 4 service projects each year - one that serves the school or greater community and others that further international understanding. Interact provides an opportunity for members to develop leadership skills, take initiative, make lasting friendships, and form a relationship with their local Rotary Club. InTeRnaTIonal ClUb Founded 1983 Ms. Edilia Nalepka Mr. Boris Spektor WINNETKA Come join other New Trier students in experiencing cultural diversity through various yearly projects: the annual reception for foreign students, International Seminar Day, Roots of New Trier, and many fundraising opportunities. Regardless of your background and experience, the Investment Club will provide a great experience for all. We will teach students more about the stock market, partake in simulation activities, and have fun while doing so. We will also invite guest speakers from investment-related fields to talk about their professional experience. We look forward to having you join the club! JaPanese CUlTURe Founded 1992 Ms. Naomi Suzuki WINNETKA Through meetings and excursions, members of the Japanese Club explore Japan’s unique culture. During meetings club members watch Japanese videos including Anime, play games and cook Japanese food. Every year, Japanese Club participates in International Day by sharing aspects of Japanese culture (such as its food and games) with everyone at New Trier. Come join the fun. JOURNAL Founded 1994 Ms. Barbara Joyce WINNETKA The Journal is a monthly newspaper written by and for New Trier sophomores. Issues concern national and in-school news; features on trends, culture, and fashion; opinions, and sports. Students work as editors, reporters, photographers, cartoonists and graphic artists. The Journal staff members are required to attend once-a-week meetings and spend one afternoon and early evening per month working on producing the paper. KnIT one, PURl Two Founded 2004 Ms. Deborah Braun Ms. Katie Buckingham NORTHFIELD Knit One, Purl Two Club brings students together who have a desire to learn or work on various fiber arts. Projects are generated by the sponsors or students and can include knitting, crocheting, sewing, hemp braiding, macramé, and other assorted fiber arts. There is a focus on working on charitable projects as well as personal and group projects. It’s fun - come play with yarn! KoRean CUlTURe Founded 1994 Mr. Paul Kim Ms. Ida Payne WINNETKA The purpose of our weekly meetings is to learn more about Korean culture through various activities, food, and just hanging out with others interested in Korean culture. Singing karaoke, playing games, and making food are just a few examples of our activities. Also, the Korean Club participates in the annual International Day festivities by selling Korean food and educating others about all things Korean!
K-PoP DanCe ClUb Founded 2011 Ms. Paige Carney WINNETKA Anyone interested in Korean entertainment and culture, come join our club. You will learn the latest dances by Korean celebrities and Korean culture. Everyone is welcome and experience is not necessary. Opportunities to perform are planned throughout the year. laTIn Founded 1969 Dr. John Kirkpatrick WINNETKA Mr. Mark Hines NORTHFIELD Latin Club promotes interest in the civilization of ancient Rome and camaraderie among New Trier Latin students. Latin Club sponsors academic competitions, cultural events and social outings for its members. There is something for everyone in Latin Club! LOGOS Founded 1992 Mr. John O’Connor WINNETKA This award-winning journal publishes four issues a year. The publication is filled with student-written poetry, fiction, nonfiction and drama. All student submissions will be printed! Staff members organize, design, advertise, and distribute the journal, as well as write articles about the art and craft of writing. Come! Come to Manor Care each week. This social service group meets after school and takes a bus to Panera for a quick snack. Students then go to Manor Care Nursing Home in Wilmette to spend quality time with senior citizens. Members play bingo, read, or converse with the residents. MaRTIal aRTs (MaC) Founded 2009 Mr. John Miller WINNETKA Affectionately referred to as “MAC” by members, this club meets to give students an opportunity to practice and learn both new and familiar martial arts. Club members explore a diverse inventory of styles including Jujitsu, Taekwondo and Kung fu. MAC has something to interest everybody. No experience is necessary and all are welcome! MaTH TeaM Founded 1982 Ms. Katherine Linsenmeier Mr. Jonathan Lepeska WINNETKA The Math Team focuses on learning problemsolving techniques used in competition. The team participates in several contests at the local and state levels. New Trier’s fine tradition of excelling in math competitions is well known. If mathematics is your pleasure, then the Math Team’s opportunities are for you. MeTallURGY Founded 2007 Mr. Tim Feldbusch Mr. Brian Van Mersbergen WINNETKA Metallurgy Club is devoted to keeping the spirit of Metal music alive by giving members the chance to meet other fans and explore the world of Metal. This club supports a great variety of musical tastes and combines fun activities like “Sharpie” tattoos, listening to music, and connecting with other Metal fans. The club attends one local Metal concert each year. The club’s sponsors have a great wealth of knowledge in the Chicago music industry that they share with you! Rock on! MeTRoPolITan Founded 2008 Ms. Pat Gillie WINNETKA Weekends come alive when Metropolitan Club hits the road. Students plan monthly trips into the city to experience the fun and excitement of Chicago’s ultra-trendy social scene as well as the surrounding neighborhoods. From live performances and back-alley theatres, to quirky stores and midnight movies, this club does it all. Each trip includes a visit to one of Chicago’s exotic restaurants that serve foods students never dreamed of! If it’s uniquely Chicago, Metropolitan Club is there! MIseRICoRDIa Ms. Mindy Rotman WINNETKA If you want to have fun and make a difference in the lives of others, join this social service group each week at Misericordia! It is a residential housing unit for mentally and physically disabled children and adults. Seeing the way residents’ faces light up when you arrive will make you glad you joined. MoDel UnITeD naTIons Founded 1993 Dr. Tom Kucharski Mr. Dean Pinos WINNETKA The Model United Nations program provides many opportunities to participate “firsthand” in the resolution of world problems. Several times throughout the school year, Model UN experiences are held around the country for high school students. Perhaps you would like to represent a country at one of these national meetings. Stop by and find out how you can be a delegate to the “United Nations.” MoUnTaIn bIKe Founded 1992 Mr. Andrew Juedes WINNETKA Do you want to learn more about the sport of mountain biking? Well, grab your helmet, pump up those tires and hit the “off road” with this club! The group takes rides on local trails and has day-trips to Kettle Moraine State Park in Wisconsin. During the off-season members learn how to maintain our own bikes.
