H. A student is bound by the Code upon beginning his/her first activity at South
Milwaukee High School.
IV. Penalties
First Violation (Alcohol/Drug Penalties):
A. Alcohol and other drug violations, including use, possession, buying, selling,
bartering or distributing: A suspension of one third (33%) of performances,
activities or competitions.
B. Attendance at a party or riding in a vehicle where minors are consuming alcoholic
beverages and/or controlled substances: a suspension of one sixth of
performance, activities, or competitions. If a student departs the party or requests
that they be allowed to exit safely from a vehicle where alcohol is being
consumed, this will be considered a valid attempt to comply with the rules.
Second Violation (Alcohol/Drug Penalties):
A. Alcohol and other drug violations, including use, possession, buying, selling,
bartering or distributing: a suspension of twelve weeks (when more than one
fourth [25%] of the season has passed) or one season, including suspension from
all performances, activities or competitions during this period. To be allowed to
participate in any activities, the student must successfully participate in and
complete the “Prime for Life” program and follow all recommendations from that
assessment.
B. Attendance at a party or riding in a vehicle where minors are consuming
alcoholic beverages and/or controlled substances: a suspension of one third
(33%) of the season and all co-curricular group performances, activities or
competitions during this period.
Third Violation (Alcohol/Drug Penalties):
A. Alcohol and other drug violations, including use, possession, buying, selling,
bartering or distributing: the student is suspended for the remainder of his/her
high school career.
B. Attendance at a party or riding in a vehicle where alcoholic beverages and/or
controlled substances are being consumed by minors: a suspension of one
calendar year from the date of suspension, including all co-curricular
activities held during this period.
Non-Alcohol or Drug Related Offenses
A. Sanctions for other III.B. Violations may be imposed upon investigation of the
alleged offense, and will be based on the nature of the offense and number of
the offenses, and may include suspension from any or all activities and
athletics. Examples of misconduct that make a student unfit to represent the
ideals, principles and standards of the School District of South Milwaukee
include but are not limited to:
a. Poor sportsmanship during co-curricular activities, including swearing or
abusive language.
b. Disobeying rules/policies set forth by the coach/advisor.
c. Reports from teachers of behavior concerns.
d. Personal appearance or dress not in compliance with policy set forth by
coach/advisor.
