10 • Visit us @ www.ChampNews.com W The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 2 October 2013 Trust says IT overhaul will bring savings SOUTHPORT and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust has undergone a complete IT overhaul to improve its print infrastructure. And management believe the changes will bring significant savings in both cost and energy. After its previous five–year contract had come to an end, the print infrastructure across the Trust was in need of a total overhaul. Staff had been left with a large number of outdated devices and with a range of brands under different contracts, print and toner costs were spiralling out of control. Standardisation was also important so that staff were able to use the devices quickly and confidently across all locations within the Trust. Major changes were required but with the least amount of disruption possible as departments in the Trust, such as A&E, Report by Ollie Cowan were unable to go without access to printing and copying for any period of time. Over time the Trust had accumulated numerous devices, some of which were relatively new and had significant lifespan remaining, so they required a provider that could integrate this equipment alongside the new devices, whilst managing and maintaining this as part of the new solution. After a successful tendering process, a speciality IT company, Altodigital, conducted a detailed site audit across the Trust’s 20 locations, identifying which devices were unnecessary and inefficient and highlighting the opportunities to save costs. The audit identified that the number of printing and copying devices could be reduced by 35% replacing all desktop printers with shared workgroup Multi–Functional–Devices (MFD) and reducing power consumption by almost half. Liz Fleetwood, Senior Procurement Officer at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, said: “We needed to totally revive our printing systems and our main objective was to achieve a cost saving – which we have already achieved in the short time we have been using the new devices. “The Optimise software has been a huge benefit to us as the toner auto–ordering has removed a lot of pressure from staff and the network is constantly managed, leaving our teams to focus on their core projects. “The portal is also incredibly useful and has had some great internal feedback – especially from our IT team.” Make her Christmas extra special! The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 2 October 2013 Football club given 25–year lease on Abbey Lane fields Council to help fund new drainage system W Visit us @ www.ChampNews.com • 11 Report by Henry James WEST Lancs Borough Council has agreed to lease Abbey Lane playing fields to Burscough Juniors FC on a 25–year lease. The council will also contribute £15,000 per year towards maintenance cost of a replacement drainage system. The lease will include a stipulation that the fields, officially known as the Thomas Galvin Sports Ground, will remain open to wider community use. A spokesman for the council said: “The Conservative council has been very supportive of local community groups and clubs, with this being the latest in a series of measures which has seen more power given to grass roots organisations.” Burscough Conservative Councillor Ruth Melling has hailed the decision as “a bright new future” for Abbey Lane playing fields. Cllr. Melling said: “I am delighted the Conservative cabinet agreed to offer the management of Abbey Lane playing fields to Burscough Juniors. We have been working hard on this, and the decision will give the fields a new lease of life. This is great news for Burscough and West Lancashire as a whole.” Cllr. David Sudworth, the Conservative cabinet member for leisure who approved the proposal, added: “Abbey Lane has had significant drainage issues for a number of years now.
