boat nas originally designed to be held at ready notice for the hunting <strong>of</strong> enem\ submarines <strong>and</strong>. if required, for convoy escort<br />

nork <strong>and</strong> stationary patrols. MI 125 m featured in "The Duel" in the last issue <strong>of</strong> "The ,%«».» ". Her skipper Hal \ enables has<br />

provided further details <strong>of</strong> his boat's encounters nith the Japanese in the "letters to the editor" section.<br />

This rather tranquil scene, taken in Sydney 's Rushcutters Bay, depicts tno <strong>of</strong> the smaller craft <strong>of</strong> the World War H period. On<br />

the left is the air-sea rescue fUWtt AIR SKSSE (So 9141 <strong>and</strong> the r'airmile B Motor Launch So 802 (right). The former served in<br />

the \orthern Territory <strong>and</strong> Sen (iuinea nar tones <strong>and</strong> in 1947 nas based in Brisbane. Tno years later she transferred to the<br />

RA A r <strong>and</strong> n MM renumbered 02-104.<br />

Tairmile So 902 HM assembled at Sydney 's (irtenpoint Saval Boatyard <strong>and</strong> served in Sen (Guinea. During 1944 she provided<br />

coverage for a group <strong>of</strong> RA\ ships in Jacquinot Bay. Sen Britain, <strong>and</strong> in 1945 covered amphibious l<strong>and</strong>ings at Wide Bay. Like<br />

many <strong>of</strong> her sisters. M.t.. 802 nas sold by auction in 1947. Tying immediately above the Tairmile in the photograph is a second<br />

air-sea rescue vessel.<br />
