STUDENT ACTIVITIES<br />

The California State <strong>PTA</strong> is pleased to have student<br />

delegates attend the convention and activities. <strong>Convention</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong>fers students a great way to build leadership skills, have a<br />

voice in issues, and interact with <strong>PTA</strong> members from<br />

around the state. Students are encouraged to take advantage<br />

<strong>of</strong> the workshops <strong>of</strong>fered, and several have been developed<br />

specifically by and for students.<br />

Student Orientation – Thursday, April 28 at 1:30 p.m. This<br />

is an opportunity for student delegates to meet each other<br />

and to interact with student members <strong>of</strong> the California State<br />

<strong>PTA</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Managers.<br />

HOTELS<br />

The <strong>of</strong>ficial headquarters for this year’s California State<br />

<strong>PTA</strong> <strong>Convention</strong> is the Hyatt-Regency Hotel. It is located<br />

next to the Long Beach <strong>Convention</strong> Center. California State<br />

<strong>PTA</strong> knows convention attendees have a choice when it<br />

comes to staying in Long Beach area hotels; however,<br />

staying at one <strong>of</strong> the convention hotels helps the California<br />

State <strong>PTA</strong> meet its contractual obligations for this and future<br />

conventions. We have negotiated very diligently to get you<br />

the lowest possible price. See page 9 to plan your stay.<br />

SOUVENIRS<br />

What would a convention be without a little something to<br />

remember it by? To help you reminisce, we have shirts,<br />

pins and ribbons celebrating this special convention.<br />

Ribbons – Ribbons – Ribbons!!! For a $20 donation to the<br />

California State <strong>PTA</strong>, you will receive a pack <strong>of</strong> five (5)<br />

specially designed ribbons to adorn your badge holder.<br />

These are in addition to the delegate ribbons that are so<br />

coveted by all who attend convention. Support the work <strong>of</strong><br />

the California State <strong>PTA</strong> Get yours today! Look for<br />

“Ribbon Pack” on the <strong>Convention</strong> Registration form.<br />

The <strong>Convention</strong> Promo Pack – Choose from three<br />

different styles <strong>of</strong> shirt. Each one comes with a handsomely<br />

designed pin <strong>of</strong> our membership theme for this year.<br />

Ordering in advance (online or by mail) will save you<br />

money, and it’s the only way to get both a shirt and pin<br />

together for this low price. These items sell out quickly, and<br />

there is no guarantee your size will be available if you wait<br />

to purchase them on-site. Pre-ordering is the best way to<br />

ensure you get what you want. Look for the “Promo Pack”<br />

WORKSHOPS<br />

<strong>Convention</strong> workshops will occur in five different time<br />

slots. Thursday workshops are three (3) hours. Friday and<br />

Saturday workshops are 90 minutes.<br />

• Thursday, April 28, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.<br />

• Friday, April 29, from 8 - 9:30 a.m.<br />

• Friday, April 29, from 10 - 11:30 a.m.<br />

• Saturday, April 30, from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.<br />

• Saturday, April 30, from 2 - 3:30 p.m.<br />

Your registration fee includes a choice <strong>of</strong> more than 80<br />

informative workshops. There is an extensive variety <strong>of</strong><br />

topics <strong>of</strong>fering something for everyone. Workshops are<br />

your opportunity to gain skills in basic areas, such as<br />

leadership, finance, membership, education, parliamentary<br />

procedures, and more. Workshop information begins on<br />

page 10.<br />

Workshops in Spanish – Two convention workshops will be<br />

presented entirely in Spanish, with English interpretation.<br />

Ten (10) additional workshops will be presented in English<br />

with Spanish interpretation. See page 18 for details.<br />

<strong>PTA</strong> STORE<br />

Plan to shop at the California State <strong>PTA</strong> Store while at<br />

convention. The <strong>PTA</strong> Store has a complete line <strong>of</strong> the latest<br />

<strong>PTA</strong>/PTSA merchandise and supplies for your association.<br />

Our exclusive <strong>PTA</strong>/PTSA branded merchandise will help<br />

you present a pr<strong>of</strong>essional look, and many <strong>of</strong> our supplies<br />

may be an approved and reimbursable <strong>PTA</strong> budget item.<br />

EXHIBIT HALL<br />

Approximately 150 companies and nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations<br />

will be on hand to demonstrate the services and products<br />

they provide. Get the latest ideas for child and school<br />

safety, educational programs, health and fitness education,<br />

fundraising, and much more.<br />

• Caution: Do not sign any contracts that will encumber<br />

your association in the next term. Remember: All<br />

contracts must be approved by your association prior to<br />

signing any contract, and must be signed by your<br />

association president and one other board member.<br />

• Free Entry on Thursday! – The Exhibit Hall will be<br />

open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday,<br />

April 28. Non-paying guests will be issued a wrist band<br />

from the Registration Booth. Children must be<br />

accompanied by an adult.<br />
