50 miles, 4 days
and a Whole Summer to Recover!!
During the second week of July, 26 slightly crazy Year 12 students
endured some of the best weather the Yorkshire Dales had to
offer during 4 days and 3 nights of damp, dung and consistent
downpours. Despite the conditions, spirits were high throughout
as the 4 walking groups clambered over some of the tallest hills
and trudged through the muddiest fields that the area had to
offer.
Highpoints included a climb up to the top of Gordale Scar at 4.30
in the morning (for a brave and perhaps foolhardy foursome) and
relaxing at the top of Pen-Y-Ghent, after a 500m uphill trek. The
trip produced some interesting encounters with local Yorkshire
farmers and a trip to Burger King on the road home rounded off
the week superbly, as a whole bus of 16 and 17 year olds hobbled
towards the counter as if they hadn’t seen a piece of meat in over
a year!
