GAME 7 - CAMPBELLSVILLE
CAMPBELLSVILLE 14
UNION 31
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Senior quarterback Joey Waters
cemented his place in the record books as Union College used a big
first half to send it to a 31-14 win over visiting Campbellsville (Ky.)
University Saturday in Mid-South Conference interdivisional play.
Waters (McDonough, Ga.) completed 25-of-38 passes for 330
yards and two touchdowns as he became the all-time leading
passer in Bulldog history as he now has 6,627 career passing yards,
surpassing Lee Worley’s mark of 6,515.
One of Waters’ favorite targets, Shawn Kelly (Owenton, Ky.)
hauled in seven passes for 98 yards to move into third place on the
all-time receptions list. He jumped past Jon Smith for the third spot
as Kelly now has 110 catches.
Union (2-5 overall, 0-2 MSC East) dominated the game offensively,
outgaining Campbellsville 569-249 in total offense. The
Bulldogs racked up a season-high 218 yards rushing, nearly a 100
more than the team’s previous best.
Meanwhile, Campbellsville (0-6 overall, 0-1 MSC West) struggled
all day to move the ball. In the first half, the Tigers has just 80 yards
in total offense with the bulk of their production coming in the fourth
quarter.
The Bulldogs took the opening kick and needed just three plays to
find the end zone. On a first down and 10 at the Tiger 48, Ben Kelly
(Owenton, Ky.) broke through the line and found an outside lane
in scoring the game’s first points with 14:02 still to go in the first.
James Hager’s (Micanopy, Fla.) made it 7-0.
After Campbellsville went three and out, Union appeared to be on
its way to another score. However, William Griffin picked off Waters
at the Tiger 15 and returned it 85 yards to even the score at 7-7 with
9:12 left in the first.
Union rebounded nicely as it countered with a nine-play, 60-yard
scoring drive. Waters capped the drive by finding Kyle Callahan
(Covington, Ky.) for a 10-yard scoring pass to make it 14-7 with 4:28
on the clock.
Antonio Drane (Louisville, Ky.) putting the finishing touches on
another long Bulldog drive a one-yard plunge with 5:40 remaining in
the half. Taking advantage of a Tiger fumble, the Bulldogs needed
just two minutes and 44 seconds to cover 90 yards in 10 plays.
Union took a 28-7 lead into the half following a Stephen Hunter
(Pineville, Ky.) 17-yard scoring reception at the 2:10 mark in the
second. In the third, Hager added a 21-yard field goal to extend the
lead to 31-7 with 7:39 on the clock.
Campbellsville’s offense finally put points on the board midway
through the fourth quarter as Greg Fountain punched the ball in from
6 yards out, capping an eight-play, 80-yard drive with 6:22 remaining.
Taylor Pruitt’s PAT made it 31-14.
Drane led the Union ground attack with a career-high 93 yards on
17 carries. Terence Pollock (Orange Park, Fla.) had 59 yards on 12
rushes, while Ben Kelly had 58 yards on six attempts. Callahan had
eight catches for 128 yards, and Ben Kelly pulled down seven balls
for 78 yards.
