After completing the
Advanced Diploma in
Engineering at the BCUTC, I
felt ready to step into the
workplace and was successful
in gaining an Apprenticeship
role with Sandvik Coromant.
They are an engineering company with
offices all over the world, which opens
up so many opportunities for me to
develop my career with them. They will
even pay for me to go to university.
I learn lots of new skills from technicians
with years of experience during my three
days at Sandvik Coromant. But at the
same time I am also getting hands on
experience myself, while also getting
paid a wage. The other two days are at
the BCUTC, which gives me the chance
to develop my theoretical knowledge
and discuss any questions I have
with tutors.
I would definitely encourage anyone to
do an Apprenticeship, as they are the
way forward, especially in Engineering as
many companies in the industry need
people with new skills.
I found the transition to industry very
straightforward as the school hours at
the BCUTC are from 8am to 5pm, which
helps you to prepare for working life. If
you are interested in Engineering,
coming to the BCUTC gives you a unique
opportunity to broaden your horizons on
the subject and puts you on the right
path to a successful career.
