I didn’t want to stay on at
school to do my GCSEs and
thought I’d have a better
chance of progressing at
the BCUTC.
Studying Science and Engineering really
appealed to me and my parents were
very encouraging. The learning style is
very different here.
It’s more interactive and you get many
opportunities to work on live briefs for
employers. Last year, I took part in a
project where I had to design a product
for a local company and present this to
one of their senior managers. I was
given real feedback and this gave me so
much more confidence for when I
eventually go into the workplace.
The equipment we use is a lot more
advanced than in schools and more
similar to those used in the industry. I’m
now studying Product Design at
A-level and use a rapid prototype
machine to create different products.
After completing Year 13, I’d like go to
university or do a Higher Apprenticeship
so I can work in the energy industry
looking at renewable resources.
