SIGMA PHASE EDUCATION SIGMA PHASE OVERVIEW This section of the Facilitator Guidebook is for the Vice President to coordinate the Sigma Phase of the Better Man Program. In this section, we’ll review expectations for large group presentations and provide you with a template for coordinating each of the presentations. After reviewing this section, you should feel prepared to lead the brothers of your chapter in the Sigma Phase. The Sigma Phase is designed specifically for the Fraternity’s initiated brothers. It aims to enrich membership through an ongoing dialogue of education with the purpose of creating well-rounded, Better Men. The program focuses on sixteen key themes: Social Excellence, Campus Resources, Leadership and Involvement, Cultural Awareness, Academic Excellence, Interfraternalism, Effective Communication, Service and Philanthropy, Ethical Decision Making, Health and Wellness, Civic Engagement, Spiritual Awareness, Career Planning, Lifelong Learning, Mentoring, and Life Skills. The Sigma Phase offers each initiated brother the opportunity for personal development and growth, while further advancing their understanding of what it means to be a member of the Fraternity. Each brother is asked to participate in each of the sixteen themes of focus that make up the Sigma Phase. Over the course of two years, Brothers are asked to participate in: • 8 large group presentations/discussions • 16 individual activities Ideally, the Sigma Phase should take two years to complete, though it could be completed in one year, if necessary, for those that join as sophomores or juniors. Members are encouraged to participate in 2 large group sessions per term and 4 individual activities per term to ensure completion within the two years. Members who complete the requirements of this phase will then participate in the Phi Phase of the Better Man Program. In order to effectively facilitate the Sigma Phase, the Vice President is asked to: • Hold a Welcome Meeting at the beginning of each semester • Coordinate with outside speakers to offer monthly Large Group Presentations • Encourage members to complete Individual Activities realted to each theme • Host a monthly round-table discussion to gather Individual Activity completion and finalize each theme SIGMA PHASE TWITTER HASHTAG Please encourage members to use the following hashtag during the Sigma Phase of the Better Man Program: #SigmaPhase tbtm | 102
