24.08.10

Imaging Complete Plate Sets
• Newspapers that print publications with many editions/zones or that have
multiple presses and occasionally need to image an additional
set of plates to plate up a press.
• When pages change between Editions/Zones this complete set may
include shared plates from earlier Editions/Zones.
• Now from a single click in the Client the server will automatically image a
complete set of plates.
29
24.08.10

Soft Proof Comparison
• Supports comparison between page versions
• Can be versions of the same page, or two completely
different pages.
• Allows people to see exactly what
changed before approving
layers (for example) and save
time and money.
32
24.08.10

Soft/Hardproof furniture
• Allows furniture to appear only soft proof, hard proof, or high
resolution output
• Uses include placing marks on soft proof to visually insure page
content appears in the correct position on the plate
33
24.08.10

Improved Fast Track
• Produce and image all plates without a plan:
• Supports 2/4/8-up imposition
• Double-burns
• How does it work?
• Extracts information from file names and folders
• Saves time by not
• requiring any plan for
• plate production.
• Great for:
• Small papers where
knowing what is
expected is not
critical
• Commercial jobs where they may not be aware of exactly
what is expected early in the process.
34
24.08.10

Colour Composite Unplanned Softproofs
• Unplanned files can now have colour soft proofs.
• These make it easier to identify as well as quicker to
move into a publication since all layers are handled
together.
35
24.08.10

Automatic Plate Loading
• Orders plate imaging of groups of plates even when the
plates contain different pages
• Important for newer presses where large numbers of plates
must image in a specific, pre-defined order
• Client user interface clearly indicates
different groupings of plates and the plates
within the group.
36
24.08.10

Dynamic Double Burn
• Automatically double-burns page layers based on file
naming even if not planned.
• Ideal in situations where a complete page that
combines adverts with editorial will not RIP but ripping
the adverts and editorial separately RIP properly.
37
24.08.10

Plate Annotation Approval
• Users can enter text annotations as part of the page
approval process.
• These annotations can then be imaged on plates
improving communication to the plate and press-room.
38
24.08.10

Skipping Softproofs
• Soft proofing allows quickly moving to next colour
soft proof by skipping monochrome pages.
• This can be useful in the pressroom where the
focus is typically on the colour pages.
39
24.08.10

3/6 Up Impositioning
• Plate layouts, publications, and the Client now support
3-up, 6-up, and even up to 32-up plates.
40
24.08.10

Page Notes
• Improves communication between departments or
sites.
• Note can be written
before the page
arrives so there is
no need to wait.
• Notes can be used as “quality alerts” to plate-making
or the press-room notifying them of pages that require
extra attention.
41
24.08.10

Automatic Client Logoff
• Defines an amount of idle time after which a user is
automatically logged off
• Useful in automatically releasing Client licenses when
users have forgotten to log off
• This flexible feature allows defining
the inactive time by user
• The system also includes
a server feature to manually
disconnect users
42
24/08/2010

Messaging
• Improve communication between editorial and print
sites using built in messaging.
• Interface button highlights to indicate when new
messages
43
24/08/2010

Hardproof on Multiple Printers
• From within the Client users can now target Hardcopy
proofs to specific printers.
• Each printer can have its own settings specific to the
printer hardware.
44
24/08/2010

Aborting Output
• When new versions of a page are sent for output the
previous version is aborted if it has not yet imaged.
• This results in savings by not imaging plates (or film)
when a replacement file has arrived.
45
24/08/2010

Late Black with PDF & TIFF
• With either data format the plan can indicate if late black
content is expected.
• In this case colour layers are imaged as soon as they are
ready.
• The black is held from output until
either a new version of the page
arrives or the layer is
manually released.
• In cases where the late black is
not known during planning this can
be set in the Client.
• This change is then visible
within the Client
46
24/08/2010

New features provided by Version 7

Soft Proof Comparison
• Minimize waste by visually comparing pages to
previous versions or editions
• Highlighted differences are easily
seen

Improved Client Speed
• Optimization of edition refreshing has eliminated a
great deal of overhead and data transfer
• Lab testing has shown:
• 25% speed reduction in simple case
• 1 edition open with 38 total pages
• Refresh reduced from 4.2 seconds to 3.1 seconds
• 91% speed reduction in complex case
• 50 editions open, average of 36 pages per edition
• Refresh reduced from 84 seconds to 7 seconds

Advanced Fast Track
• Allows production of plates without any planning
• Information is extracted from incoming file names and
folders including:
• Publication/Edition/Zone/Section
• Publication date
• Imposition, plate quantity, priority
• Plus more
• Tracking display automatically updates as new files
arrive

Soft/Hard Proof Furniture
• Soft Proof, Hard Proof, or final output can include or
exclude furniture such as position or cut marks.
• These marks are easily added in the Plate Builder
interface.
• Inclusion of marks makes it easy to verify that page
content is properly positioned
• This is very useful
when pages arrive
from outside sources

Color Composite Soft Proof
• Easily view and identify unplanned files by using color
soft proofs
• Dragging the composite file onto the proper page
automatically processes all layers of the unplanned
page.

Automatic Plate Loading Option
• Minimizes plate-making labor by imaging plates in plan
defined order
• Order is based on press or plate-making requirements
• Multiple plates – even from multiple
press units – are grouped and ordered
• Output of plates in the group wait until
all plates in the group are ready to
output (including waiting for approvals)
• Client clearly shows grouping and ordering of plates to
ease tracking
• Initial release of V7 requires input from AutoPlan

Dynamic Double Burn
• Automatically double burns pages based on file
naming even if double burn is not planned
• Ideal for use in resolving RIP issues. For example:
• A page fails in the RIP for unknown reasons despite the
fact the ad-stack successfully proofed. The cause is a
conflict between an ad and the editorial
• A common solution is to remove ads one at a time until
the page RIPs in order to identify the offending ad
• By sending ad-stack and editorial (without the ads) to
RIP separately the error is eliminated.
• These separately RIPed files are then automatically
double burned for output

Approval Annotation
• Improves communication by allowing the manual entry
– via the Client – of a message and then annotating
this message onto the plate
• Message can include information plate-making and/or
press-room such as when to mount plate on press
• This information may be easier to send in this way
than to modify the plat.

Hardproofing Multiple Proofers
• With Version 7 :Arkitex can be configured with up to 25
different printers for the user to select from.
• This allows Client users to select which proofer to
target.

Skipping Softproofs
• People in the press-room, or in other departments, are
often interested only in viewing soft proofs of color
pages since those are the pages they are most
concerned with.
• With Version 7 users can now quickly skip all
monochrome soft proofs and move directly to the next
color page making their job easier.

User Timeout
• Like users of other licensed servers requiring a login,
users of :Arkitex Client may occasionally forget to log
out when the leave for the day or when they are away
from their system.
• With Version 7 each user can be assigned a “time out”
as part of their login which causes an automatic logout
after the configured period of activity.
• This automatic logoff requires no interaction on the
part of an administrator other than simply assigning the
time out duration when creating the user.

3/6 Up Imposition
• Some newer presses, or with older presses where web
width reductions allow for it, are able to run 3 or 6
broadsheet pages (or 6 and 12 tabloid pages) across the
plate cylinder (this, of course, requires a device capable of
imaging a 6 page wide plate).
• In order to fully support this, Version 7 includes the ability to
define these impositions within the Publication Builder
interface and to save these imposition layouts for later use.
• In the initial release of V7 these impositions are created using
a special Excel spreadsheet we provide.
• In some cases the press, either as originally delivered or
through a retrofit, is able to run 3pages around the cylinder.
The ability to layout a 3 around plate will also be present in
Version 7.

Windows 2008 Support
• Version 7 supports Windows Server 2008 R2 allowing
it to take advantage of the additional memory
supported by the 64-bit operating system.
