Cross Country training started this week for both Andrews Cup and QGSSSA squads, as well as any girls wanting
to participate for fitness. Ninety students attended the first session on Monday morning which was an excellent
turn-out and one which needs to be maintained over Terms 1 and 2.
All girls involved in Autumn Fixture trials, and those intending to trial for Winter Fixtures, Rowing or Athletics, are
encouraged to come along as often as possible to improve their fitness for other sports. All ability levels are catered
for and all students need to register their intention to attend via the following link:

following times, starting from the location listed:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 6.15 - 7.45am - Years 5 to 12 at the Sports Hall
Monday: 3.00 - 4.00pm – Years 3 and 4 on the Oval
Tuesday: 3.30 - 5.00pm – Years 5-7 at the Sports Hall
Thursday: 6.45 - 7.45am – Years 3 and 4 on the Oval
Thursday: 3.20 - 4.50pm – Years 8-12 at the Sports Hall

SOFTBALL

Although the QGSSSA Softball fixtures were cancelled in the past two weeks, Somerville House Softballers are still
training with top effort. We are excited to play our first games of the season this Saturday 16 February. It would be
absolutely fantastic to see as many supporters as possible see us in action. You can even stay to watch the Charity
Celebrity Game that is on that afternoon which will include the Australian Softball Team and celebrities such as
Gordon Tallis! We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Saturday. Good luck to all the players.
Congratulations to Emma Comerford (9D) who was selected in the 2013 Composite District Softball team to
compete at the Met East carnival on Thursday 21 February at the Redlands Softball Grounds after winning through
from the Composite District trials held last week, a marvellous achievement especially as Emma is in Year 9 and
this is an U19 team.
SWIMMING

SWIMMING QGSSSA Captains: Catherine Mann and Phoebe Kelly
The Somerville House invitational meet held last Friday 08 February was a roaring success. There were over sixty
QGSSSA swimmers who competed against Clayfield College, IGGS, St Aidan’s, St Hilda’s and Mt St Michael’s. All
girls swam well and special mention must go to the 15 years age group who had the most competitors and some of
the fastest times. Thank you to the Swimming Support Group for assisting with this meet.
Next week’s meet will be held on 15 February at the pool. It will commence at 3.30pm and finish at about 5.30pm.
Reminder: all swimmers to nominate for the Age Championship Swimming Carnival. This carnival is for all
swimmers who want to get times for QGSSSA and Andrews Cup team selections. Other students are encouraged
to attend and support the swimmers. This meet determines the top two swimmers in each age group, and will
include longer distance events such as the 200m Individual Medleys.
