The Four Cultures Festival
Continuation of the festival which refers to the four cultures which
are inseparable part of the history of Łódź. The festival is to show the
cultural achievements of Poles, Jews, Germans and Russians – the
nations which built Łódź. The rich festival programme will provide
events for fans of music, films, theatre and literature. Apart from
concerts, performances, film reviews and numerous expositions being
held all over the city, there is also a rich offer for children and young
people. The latter should be especially interested in workshops aimed
specifically at them. The festival uniquely brings together young and
adult recipients of culture, those from Łódź and visitors. Its main
goal is also to teach people to be tolerant and to inspire and prove
that multiculturalism gives us an exceptional chance to create unique,
diverse and high-quality cultural undertakings.
A unique, interdisciplinary artistic event dedicated to contemporary
art. It is organised in the city space and is a reference to the
artistic event which began in Łódź in 1980 – The Construction
in Process. Artists taking part in this festival create their projects
(expositions, installations, projections, actions, workshops) in public
space: in shop windows, shopping arcades, factories, pubs, and flats,
with the viewers witnessing the creative process. One of the basic
assumptions of the festival is spontaneous creation of a platform of
cooperation, mutual promotion and exchange of experience between
artists. The viewers can gain knowledge about the newest contemporary
art and its effect on the modern city structure.
International Festival of Comics
The International Festival of Comics has been organised in
Łódź since 1991. This is the greatest event of this kind in Central
and Eastern Europe, which attracts several thousand participants
from Poland and abroad every year. During every festival there
are meetings with graphic designers, scriptwriters and publishers,
who come to Łódź from all over the world. The festival has hosted
authors from the USA, Russia, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the
Czech Republic, Romania, Austria and Great Britain. The invited
guests not only meet with the audience but also conduct drawing
and scriptwriting workshops. Thanks to the festival and the thriving
comic environment Łódź has been called for years ‘the Polish
capital of comics’.
