www.ziemialodzka.pl
So far, 7 landscape parks have been created in the Łódź Province to permanently protect the most valuable environmental and landscape
elements of the region. Both animate and inanimate nature is protected. There are the following landscape parks: • Bolimów Landscape Park
• Warta-Widawka Landscape Park • Łódź Hills Landscape Park • Przedbórz Landscape Park • Spała Landscape Park • Sulejów Landscape
Park • Załęcze Landscape Park. Four of them – Warta-Widawka Landscape Park, Łódź Hills Landscape Park, Spała Landscape Park and
Sulejów Landscape Park – are located entirely in the Łódź Province. The remaining three parks have transborder character, i.e. they lie on the
border of different provinces: Bolimów Landscape Park – Łódź Province and Mazovia Province, Przedbórz Landscape Park – Łódź Province
and Świętokrzyskie Province, Załęcze Landscape Park – Łódź Province, Silesian Province and Opole Province. The total surface area of the
landscape parks in the Łódź Province is 97,945.2 ha, which constitutes approx. 5.38 % of the total area of the Łódź Province.
Moreover, there are 88 nature reserves in the Łódź Province, with a total surface area of nearly 8,000 ha. Most of them are forest reserves
(67). They have been created to protect the remains of natural ecosystems, old tree stumps, rare tree species and trees growing within and
outside their natural range. Additionally, the Łódź Province has 9 flora reserves, 6 peat-bog reserves, 2 landscape reserves, 1 fauna reserve,
1 water reserve, 1 halophilic reserve and 1 inanimate nature reserve. The largest protected area of this kind is the ‘Jeziorsko’ fauna reserve,
protecting a bird sanctuary in the southern part of an artificial water reservoir with the same name.
In total, the landscape protection system in the form of landscape parks and natural reserves occupies nearly 9% of the area of the Łódź
Province, i.e. approx. 1,800 km².
