symptoms, causes, control
this). During sexual activity,
the sphincter valve of our
bladder squeezes itself very
tightly shut so that there is
no escape of urine into the
urethra. This also leads to
hardening and weakening
of bladder’s muscular
system.
vi) And last but not the
least, the modern day exaggerated mental stress also
contributes a lot towards mal-functioning of the
prostate gland. Stress weakens the nervous system
and is the basic cause of all our diseases. Stress upsets
the normal secretions of all glands of the body,
particularly hormonal glands.
Prevention and Cure
As mentioned above, only 80 percent males have
prostate enlargement by age 80 and the remaining
20 percent escape. Why? Because they remain
physically active even in old age. Thus, if we can adopt
a healthy, physically vigorous life style, we can
definitely avoid the problems of prostate
enlargement. No doubt, the hormonal changes will
occur, but their effects can be kept under control. In
fact, men with mild BPH. do not need any treatment
at all, as it does not pose any danger to his health.
Here are listed below a few steps for controlling
prostate problems:
1. Never hold the urge to urinate. While passing
urine, empty the bladder fully, even if it takes a
little longer time. Do not be in a hurry.
2. Go for urination after each meal. After meals, the
stomach becomes full/heavy and thereby exerts
pressure on bladder. Also, after eating food, our
body’s metabolism is increased and kidneys
generate more urine.
3. Eat your dinner early, possibly by 7.00 p.m. but
definitely before 8 p.m. and eat a light dinner, so
that metabolism is completed before you go to
sleep.
4. Avoid fatty food, as it leads to fatty tissues,
18
enlargement of glands and even
cancer.
5. Take as much water as possible
during the day but not after 7
p.m., so to avoid urination urge
at night.
6. Do not eat or drink cold things at
night, as it increases metabolism
late at night.
7. Do not take tea/coffee or other stimulants after,
as they exert pressure on kidneys. Avoid spicy
food at night. Spicy food irritates the bladder.
8. Must pass urine and empty the bladder before
going to bed at night.
9. Avoid constipation, as it exerts pressure not only
on colon but also on prostate, kidneys and
bladder.
10. Keep your muscles strong and elastic through
regular yoga exercises. There are many yoga
asanas to keep prostate gland in a healthy state
such as Vajrasana, Supta Vajrasan, Tittliasan A,
Gorakshashna, Trikonasana, Navasan,
Janushirasan, Gomukhasan, Bhujangasan,
Pavanmuktasan And Surya Namaskar. Some
Other Yogic Kriyas are also extremely useful, e.g.,
Mool Bandh, Agnisaar, Uddiyanbandh,
Ashwinimudra, which involve repeated pulling
up the anus/rectum/urinary organs and muscles
upwards and keeping them strong and elastic.
Doing yoga regularly is the best preventive and
curative measure.
11. Avoid sitting continuously for a long time. Get
up from your seat every hour, take water and do
a little loosening of your limbs, and go for
urination every two hours during the day. Do
Tadasan every hour – it involves raising your
hands upwards in a standing position on your
toes and pulling the whole body upwards.
12. Keep a Cool Mind, avoid mental stress and do
Meditation.
13. Avoid excessive sex and masturbation. Those who
indulge in excessive sex/masturbation are more
likely to suffer from enlarged prostate and it puts
