ALUMINIUM 2010 continues to
forge ahead. 650 exhibitors
from 40 countries have already
registered. Five months before
the start of the fair, we are
highly optimistic that we will
be able to get many more undecided
companies to take part in
ALUMINIUM by 14 September.
Despite the current economic climate where aluminium
is concerned, many companies consider
their presence at the fair to be absolutely essential.
Especially now, a large number of exhibitors
have decided on ALUMINIUM so as to demonstrate
their presence here to the whole industry; over
100 companies will come to Essen for the very
first time in September. This demonstrates the
considerable trust that the industry has in this fair.

In 2010, the ALUMINIUM 2010 Conference is being
organised for the first time by GDA - Gesamtverband
der Aluminiumindustrie in conjunction with
Reed Exhibitions. The conference is titled ‘Aluminium
– Material for the Future” and around 50
proposals for presentations have been submitted
covering the following topics: “Automotive”,
Companies, engineers and designers can submit
their innovations for the EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM
AWARD 2010 until July 1st.

Successful second edition of
ALUMINIUM INDIA
The Indian aluminium industry continues to
expand. This was evident in the second edition of
ALUMINIUM INDIA, which ended successfully in
Mumbai with a noticeable increase in visitor
numbers. All told, 2,300 trade visitors came to the
Bombay Exhibition Centre from 25 to 27 February.
As a result, the trade fair was able to boost its
result from the first event two years ago by 35%.
The trade fair also noted an increase from abroad.
The Middle East was also strongly represented.
108 exhibitors from 18 countries were present at
ALUMINIUM INDIA, including industry leaders
such as Vedanta, Hindalco, Bhoruka Aluminium
Ltd., Fata Hunter, Pyrotek, RUSAL or Wagstaff. Just
like the first event, the trade fair was accompanied
by the Alcastek Conference, the International
Convention on Aluminium Casting, Rolling and
Extrusion Technology.
The Indian aluminium industry expects a strong
rise in aluminium consumption in the years to
come. The Indian government is looking forward to
growth and investments especially from the automobile
industry, as Rajendra Darda, the Minister
for Industry for the Federal Indian State of
Maharashtra, pointed out when the trade fair
opened. Where primary production is concerned,
the Indian aluminium market will grow in the
years to come: Hindalco and Balco are currently
extending their mill capacities on the subcontinent.
Next ALUMINIUM INDIA will take place from 10
to 12 November 2011.

Expansion of existing and launch of new theme pavilions
Once again there will be special theme pavilions at ALUMINIUM 2010, sponsored by industrial
associations, providing the individual industries with an optimum meeting place within the fair and
presenting solutions for individual segments. Pavilions that have been established for years, e.g.
the Foundry Pavilion, will be complemented by new segments, such as the Solar Pavilion.
Foundry Pavilion (Hall 2, Stand 2C09)
Sponsored by the German Foundry Association,
BDGUss, the Foundry Pavilion presents suppliers of
casting technologies, alloys, small batches and
complete solutions. Over 30 companies present
novelties and solutions in Hall 2, which deals

from the sector of alumina and aluminium production

The Solar Pavilion will open its door for the very
first time to display an exciting and highly topical
application for aluminium: Photovoltaic and solar
heat. It is located in Hall 7 (7E20). Stands and
presentation possibilities can still be reserved in
the Solar Pavilion, also optimal for exhibitors who
are looking for an additional, small presentation
area in this specific segment.
Piecework Coating Pavilion
(Hall 4, Stand 4B40)
The Piecework Coating Pavilion is a joint stand
that is dedicated especially to the surface topic
(coating of aluminium as well as lacquering, piecework
coating, coating with decorative surfaces,
powder coating, equipment and consumables for
surface treatment, corrosion protection). The
Quality Association for the Piecework Coating of
Building Components (GSB) sponsors this new

Focusing on the Welding and Joining
of Aluminium
With its own theme day at the presentation forum
and a theme pavilion, ALUMINIUM 2010 directs the
focus of attention of the fair on welding and joining
– assisted by the German Welding Society, DVS.
The importance of aluminium welding for the application
industries is also demonstrated by the automotive
industry. Up to 4,800 resistance spot-welded
and 150 projection welded welding points and over
110 welded-on bolts can be found in some vehicles.
“Modern materials, such as aluminium, demand
new welding technology innovations in the
manufacture of motor vehicles”, says Dr Klaus
Middeldorf, Managing Director of DVS. ”At
ALUMINIUM 2010, we and our members as theme
partners intend to focus further on the welding and
joining aspects”, Klaus Middeldorf went on to say.
Theme day in the forum
On 15.09.2010, DVS and DVS Media will present
the theme day “Aluminium – Welding and Joining”
at the ALUMINIUM presentation forum in Hall 6.
The focus will be on exhibitor presentations of novelties
in the technology and plant sectors for
aluminium welding as well as associated joining
technologies. DVS Managing Director, Klaus Middeldorf,
will open the theme day; Chartered Engineer
Wolfgang Heidrich from GDA will conclude
with a summary. This will also provide the link to
the ALUMINIUM Conference 2010, at which the
keynote address on the topic “Joining of Aluminium”
will be presented by the DVS.

Several countries present themselves within joint
pavilions. Here we present some of them:
French Pavilion
France has always played a major role in the aluminum
industry. In 1854, the French industrial Henri
Saint-Claire Deville made the first significant
production of aluminum using a new chemical
process. 23 years later, it is also a French factory
who is the first in the world to produce aluminum
using this process. In 2010 French companies are
gathered together in the French Pavilion in Hall 1.

Danish Pavilion
For the first time the ALUMINIUM fair will see a
Danish Pavilion, organised by the Danish Aluminium
Association in co-operation with the Royal Danish
Embassy, Berlin and the Trade magazine: J&M
Industrien. The Pavilion is co-financed by the Trade
Council of Denmark. At the Pavilion visitors can
meet highly specialised Danish companies eg.
Alu Technologies A/S, Alumeco A/S, JAI A/S, VST
A/S, SJOLUND A/S, and Ceropa A/S - representing
the whole product value chain with advanced extrusions,
advanced manufacturing, rolled products,
gravity die casting, welding of casted constructions,

Norwegian Pavilion
Norway is a country remarkable in many respects,
but definitely distinguished as an aluminium
producer. The production of primary aluminium is
substantial, even on a world scale. This industry
represents a larger part of the nation’s total industrial
potential than in any other country.
An industry of this size incorporates most of
today’s applied process technologies and is given
high priority in research and development to improve
the technology.
Five companies that design and produce machines
and equipment for these smelters are gathered
together on stand 1D70 at ALUMINIUM 2010 in
Essen.
The companies are major suppliers to the 7 Norwegian
primary smelters with experience from
cast house, carbon plants and machines for pot

Art from aluminium
In 2010, Essen will not only be the meeting place for
the aluminium world, but also the European Capital
of Culture. How art and aluminium come together
can be seen at the world fair from 14 to 16 September.

Trade fair journals of ALUMINIUM 2010
As the official trade fair journals, the English
language “APT Aluminium News” and the German
language “Aluminium Praxis”, will report on the
exhibitors. Both publications will have a print run
for the fair of 10,000 copies each and will be the
only trade journals available exclusively on site at
the entrance to the fair as well as in the participating
hotels and other central locations for distribution
to the visitors of ALUMINIUM 2010. In
“APT Aluminium News” and in “Aluminium Praxis”,
all exhibitors have the opportunity to inform
visitors free-of-charge about their fair activities,
latest products, innovative projects or
their company.
