Girls Varsity
Soccer
By Bryan Stafford
The 2008 girls Varsity
Soccer team put forth an
outstanding effort this season
even though they suffered many
losses. The team was led by
Coach Neil Schmidt. I asked
Coach Schmidt about his team
this year and he said that the
girls have been showing
improvement and have become
more competitive with teams in
our district. The girls have
surpassed previous year’s
records and have shown greater
improvement than teams that started their soccer programs about the same time Giles did. All of
the girls wins have been against these teams. He says the improvement comes from great attitudes
and the willingness to work hard. Showing heart, the lady Spartans took on the state champion
Bobcats and held them to six goals in the first half and zero in the second half. The girls had a
wonderful and fun season and many of the girls were awarded all district honors. Junior Kelsey
Frazier and senior Grace Meier were awarded 1 st team all district and Astleigh Hobbs, Cassie
Martin, Ciara Meredith, and Jenna Warthen were all awarded 2 nd team all district and Kayla
Stump received an honorable mention.
