Day 1: Lima
Roll up, check in and head out and explore. Catch
the colonial-style changing of the guard downtown
and check out the captivating catacombs at the
cathedral. For the adrenaline junkies, soar off a
cliff on a tandem paraglide for an aerial view with a
difference.
Day 2-3: Nazca
Here you’ll find the mysterious Nazca Lines etched
into the side of the landscape. Fertility symbols,
giant astronomical calendars and spaceship landing
areas are just some of the varied explanations for
their existence. If you fancy a bird’s eye view you
can jump on an optional plane tour, or for the more
grounded, there’s the chance to explore a pre-Inca
desert cemetery (complete with mummies!) or get
the blood pumping with a bit of sandboarding. Feast
on a traditional Pachamanca dinner, where a variety
of delicious treats are slow-cooked by pre-heated
rocks buried in the ground. (D)
Day 4-6: Arequipa
Arequipa’s beautiful city is set in the shadow of the
El Misti volcano, surrounded by the Andes. Spread
your wings like the Colca Canyon’s resident Andean
condors and take an overnight trip to explore
its dark, deceptive depths. Or spend your days
roaming the city, exploring museums and the Santa
Catalina Convent.
Day 7: Cuzco
Check out the markets, artisan style shops and tuck
into some local grub – nibble on roast guinea pig
or try taste the difference between Peru’s 3,000
potato varieties.
Day 8: Ccacaccollo Community
Travel by bus into the Sacred Valley, to the
community of Ccacaccollo. This leg of the trip is all
about mingling with the locals. You’ll visit a women’s
weaving cooperative and get a chance to pick up
some high quality souvenirs for your mates back
home. At night, you’ll stay with a local family. (D)
Day 9: Ollantaytambo
Travel through the Sacred Valley to the quaint
tongue-twister town of Ollantaytambo. There’s the
chance to take a tour through the valley where there
will be plenty of alpacas to befriend and fascinating
Inca empire ruins to explore – all a little teaser for
the Inca Trail ahead. (B)
Day 10-13: Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
At the risk of sounding like one of those cheesy
inspirational quotes you only hear in movies, dreams
really will come alive on this epic once-in-a-lifetime
trek along one of the most revered trails in the
world. Take in the insanity of the superb views with
the rest of your group. Having scaled high passes,
on your last day you will arrive at the gateway to
Machu Picchu, to greet the Inca world at sunrise. If
your legs will carry you any further then there’s the
option to climb up to Huayna Picchu or visit the Inca
Bridge before returning to Cuzco. (3B, 3L, 3D)
Day 14-15: Cuzco
Chill out or party hard in the aftermath of the
Inca Trail. If you’ve got any energy left, you can go
mountain biking, rafting or horse riding. Sadly, on
Day 15 your trip comes to an end.
