THE INCA TRAIL
fr
$1,249
Cuzco > Cuzco
ACTIVE
Highlights
• Explore Cuzco, the continent’s oldest city
• Shop with the locals in the Sacred Valley
• Trek the epic Inca Trail over mountain passes
• Watch the sun rise over Machu Picchu
Day 1: Cuzco
Cuzco is always buzzing with travellers preparing for
the Inca Trail and those recently returned from treks.
It’s the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited
city, steeped in history, tradition and legend so
make sure you head out and explore. Wander the
cobblestone streets, lap up the atmosphere and
altitude and head to the museums to learn about the
area’s Inca and colonial past.
Day 2: Sacred Valley/Ollantaytambo
Head out for a full-day guided tour of the Sacred
Valley and Ollantaytambo ruins. You’ll see Inca
ruins, stunning scenery and definitely a llama or
two. Visit a women’s weaving cooperative where
you can pick up some beautiful textiles and shop
further at a local market before arriving into pretty
Ollantaytambo ahead of tomorrow’s epic adventure.
Day 3-6: Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
Hiking boots and woolly alpaca hats may not be the
height of fashion at home, but here they’re standard
issue. You’ll hike over mountain passes, through
cloud forest and past incredible Inca constructions
and be left in awe of the ancient civilisation. A team
of local porters will speed ahead to make sure
camp is set up each evening. On the last morning
you’ll climb the steps to Intipunku, the ‘Sun Gate’, to
catch your first glimpse of Machu Picchu through
the rising morning mist. You’ve got time to tour the
famous Inca ruin, climb up to Huayna Picchu or visit
the Inca Bridge before catching the train back to
Cuzco. (3B, 3L, 3D)
Day 7: Cuzco
Celebrate the fact that you’ve conquered one of the
Seven Wonders of the World with either a day of
relaxation or adrenalin before leaving your tour.
GASPIT
Two important Inca Trail tips: You cannot hike alone,
you must go with a government authorised company
(don’t worry, G Adventures is one of them!). If you try
to go alone you will be turned back at the trail head.
You should book well in advance as only 500
people are permitted to hike the Trail per day.
This number includes support crew such as
guides, cooks and porters – precious few
spots are available for hikers!
