Day 1-2: Buenos Aires
Dubbed the Paris of South America, Buenos Aires is
splashed with vibrancy, class and more than a hint
of tango. Walk through colourful working-class La
Boca, boho chic San Telmo, high-class Recoleta and
party-central Palermo. Tango those twinkle toes
at a Tangueria and order a juicy Argentine steak.
If you can, catch a football game at La Bombonera
(the chocolate box), La Boca’s famed blue and gold
stadium.
Day 3: Colonia del Sacramento
Cross the Rio de la Plata by ferry to Colonia del
Sacramento, Uruguay. Stroll along the riverfront
and up the cobbled streets or hire a golf buggy to
explore. Beware of motorised mayhem though –
there are no traffic lights, few road signs and they
drive on the wrong side of the road. Once the sun
sets, spend the evening sipping sangria and tucking
into superb seafood.
Day 4-5: Montevideo
This uber cool capital is renowned for hosting
Buenos Aires’ socialites on the weekends. The
urban landscape combines art deco and neoclassical
buildings with the historic downtown business
district and 80s style skyscrapers. Explore the
streets or rave it up on the sandy white beach that
surrounds the city.
Day 6-7: Salto
PARAGUAY
Salto
Colonia
Finish up your Uruguay experience in Salto, relaxing
in the thermal baths, indulging in spa treatments and
getting wet and wild at the water park. Board a night
bus on Day 7 bound for Iguassu Falls.
Day 8-10: Iguassu Falls
You’ll be lost for words as you breathe in the warm
waterfall vapour and hop over the border to Brazil
for a different view or two. Take the opportunity to
ride under the huge torrents of thundering water on
a speedboat.
Day 11-12: Paraty
Iguassu Falls
URUGUAY
Buenos Aires Montevideo
Palm trees and sandy shores make up the most part
of Paraty, a quaint colonial town with a relaxed,
friendly feel. Jump on a boat tour of the beautiful
bay and nearby beaches or if you can tear yourself
away from the shore, visit a cachaça distillery to find
out exactly how they brew this local tipple.
Day 13-15: Ilha Grande
After a bus trip and ferry ride, you’ll arrive at the
stunning island of Ilha Grande, famous for their
chilled out attitude. There are over 100 beaches to
choose from, so grab your snorkel, get your flippers
on and head out into the surf.
Day 16-17: Rio de Janeiro
BRAZIL
Sao Paulo
Río de Janeiro
Paraty
Ilha
Grande
According to the locals, ‘God made the world in
six days, the seventh he devoted to Rio’. With
Copacabana and Ipanema’s stunning beaches, Christ
the Redeemer’s sweeping views and sunsets atop
the Sugar Loaf, it’s not hard to see why. Soak in the
intoxicating colour and a caipirinha or two before
heading home.
