issue has not been clarified. The matters have not been<br />

In response, the Committee’s chair, MK Yuri Shtern, stated:<br />

I do not agree with that. (Ibid.)<br />

MK Melchior replied:<br />

First, the questions relate to residents of the State of Israel,<br />

and permanent residents of East Jerus<strong>al</strong>em. I want to<br />

receive data on the consequences, on how many children<br />

will be affected. What are the consequences if children were<br />

born to residents of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, and the<br />

children were born there – such as the hundreds of cases<br />

presented to me during these weeks. What will be the effects<br />

on the children to which this statue relates.<br />

What I want to hear from the government representatives<br />

here is how many children will be separated from their<br />

parents as a result of this statute. What are the soci<strong>al</strong>,<br />

psychologic<strong>al</strong>, and other implications for these children and<br />

for their future. (Ibid., page 6).<br />

The Committee’s chair <strong>al</strong>so had relevant questions for the government representatives:<br />

[...] What happens with the children of residents of East<br />

Jerus<strong>al</strong>em? … What happens when one or both of the<br />

parents are not citizens, but are residents, and the child is<br />
