AutoLog 32 Instruction Manual Page 6 - 926/10/20016.6 Pulse inputsThe AL 32PL board has four pulse counters capable of counting at a rate of up to 100kHz. The signal to be counted can be either a single-phase pulse train, or atwo-phase signal, e.g. from an incremental sensor, with a 90 phase shift. With atwo-phase input signal the board can detect the direction of movement and separatea full cycle of the input signal into 1, 2, or 4 pulses. With a single-phase input signalthe counter always counts up. The counters are mutually independent.The current contents and pulse rates of the counters are available in the registermemories of the controller. The system program compares the momentary contentsof the counters with the end limits and preliminary limits set by the logic program. Theresults of the comparison are available in certain memory locations of the controller.The comparison results can also be sent direct to controller outputs. The updatingcycle time is then 5 ms on average, and 5.5 ms as a maximum. The pulse rate datais updated at intervals of 0.5 s.The input to each counter consists of four screw terminals for the two pulse signalsand supply power for the sensor.The logic program informs the system program whether the comparison data are sentdirect to controller outputs.
