C i t y o f M e t h u e n A n n u a l R e p o r t : 2 0 1 2have focused on determining areas <strong>of</strong> strength as well as those in need <strong>of</strong> continued attention. Theinformation gathered from these discussions was then compiled and forwarded to the PerformanceImprovement Mapping (PIM) team.The 2013 Timony School Improvement Plan identifies school goals, which are in concert with thegoals <strong>of</strong> the school district. The focus will be implementing the Massachusetts CurriculumFrameworks, incorporating the Common Core Standards as they relate to student progress,curriculum development, staff development, and assessment practices.At the district level, staff will participate in the pr<strong>of</strong>essional development opportunities provided tosupport the implementation <strong>of</strong> the new Common Core curriculum in English language arts,mathematics, and science. Additional support will be provided in the effective implementation <strong>of</strong>standards based instruction.At the building level, the Timony has two (2) areas <strong>of</strong> focus; more effectively addressing the needs <strong>of</strong>our second language learners, a population that continues to grow, and becoming familiar with theCommon Core standards and how to implement them in a standards- based instructionalenvironment. Timony staff believes the most effective method <strong>of</strong> helping teachers to become moreeffective in these areas is through the grade-level meetings which are always focused on curriculum,instruction and improving student achievement. Timony administration and the instructionalcoaches participate in these grade level meetings as “experts” and facilitators <strong>of</strong> improvementdiscussions. Additionally, teachers will be provided time to collaborate with each other in an effortto accentuate our strengths and improve our areas in need. It is the strong belief that Timony hasmany outstanding staff members who should be encouraged to share their strategies and ideas withothers. It is through this collaborative effort that the Timony staff is able to continually improvetogether.The Timony Grammar School believes that parental involvement is critical to the success <strong>of</strong> allstudents. Parents are invited to become formally involved in several aspects <strong>of</strong> the school. Asmembers <strong>of</strong> the School Council, they participate in the development <strong>of</strong> the improvement plan andhave input into decisions concerning the school. As members <strong>of</strong> the PTO, they assist in thedevelopment <strong>of</strong> a cultural arts program and assist in organizing the parent volunteer program.The staff <strong>of</strong> the Timony Grammar School appreciates the efforts <strong>of</strong> parents. Faculty andadministration are constantly working towards improving communication with parents. It is thepartnership <strong>of</strong> school and home that results in creating the greatest opportunity for success for allstudentsIt will continue to be a goal <strong>of</strong> every Timony Grammar School staff person to nurture students,promote academic success, and welcome parent involvement. The staff is talented, hardworking,and dedicated to meeting the needs <strong>of</strong> Timony students by providing quality instruction that engagesevery student to achieve to his or her maximum potential.
