C i t y o f M e t h u e n A n n u a l R e p o r t : 2 0 1 2Information TechnologyThe Information Technology Department manages the computer and data system for the City ofMethuen.Information Technology supports the core functions of all other City departments. The departmentprovides resources and services for city employees that ensure reliability, dependability, usabilityand a high standard of service.Information Technology also plays a primary role in working with the other city departments toidentify and implement new information technology strategies, supporting their business processesand provide value to their customers.2012 AccomplishmentsIn 2012, the City of Methuen Information Technology Department:‣ Installed three (3) VMWare servers for virtualization and a storage array to supportvirtualization‣ Virtualized eleven (11) servers‣ Upgraded eighty-seven (87) new desktop computers‣ Provided new security software for virus and spam‣ Performed maintenance upgrades to the control room for city cable channel.‣ Upgraded software for live webcast and on-demand webcast of city government meetings‣ Implemented ongoing performance upgrades of the network.‣ Upgraded City archiving software‣ Increased city web site content and ease of use‣ Provided more accessible website links to give citizens easier access to city services‣ Upgraded city telephone system fail-over in case of line outages‣ Upgraded wireless phones for city departments76
