TRANSPORTPage 28 of 68Structure gauge envelopeThe purpose of the structure gauge envelope is tocreate an adequate area that separates trains fromthe trackside infrastructure and other trains. Thisstandard mandates the minimum absolute allowabledimensions that must separate any new or alteredtrackside infrastructure from the centre line of eachtrack and the level of the rails. Envelopes are shownin figure 7, with envelopes C and D2 relating topermanent and temporary construction respectively.To allow boarding on platforms, envelope C cannotbe strictly applied, so a minimum of three metresmust be kept clear from the rail side edge of everyplatform edge.REQUIREMENT16.
