This letter andthe attached documents contain important information that will help you to prepare for the next steps in our hiringprocess. To be successful in the hiring process you must read all the information carefully and comply with allrequirements and request for documentation. Failure to do so is automatic cause for rejection. The hiringprocess schedule is very tight as evidenced by the attached timeline. Our intent is to provide all candidates with thedates <strong>of</strong> all scheduled activities in advance so you can be prepared to attend if you are invited to participate in thevarious stages <strong>of</strong> the process. That being said, the schedule is subject to change without notice due to circumstancesbeyond our control.E-mail will be our primary means <strong>of</strong> communication. You are encouraged to provide us with your e-mail address andto check it daily to make sure you don’t miss any notifications or appointments. If you do not have an e-mail addressplease indicate that and provide a telephone number where you can be reached or messages can be left. This process isvery accelerated, notice will be short, and a prompt means <strong>of</strong> communication is essential for your success.The application deadline is Sunday 7/29/12. All application materials and documentation must be filed on-linethrough the <strong>Town</strong>’s portal on the JobsinMe.com website. The application can be accessed through the EmploymentOpportunities link on the Human Resource’s department webpage at: http://www.scarborough.me.us/hrga/index.htmlIf you have any questions about the application process or attaching documents to the application you can contact thefire department business <strong>of</strong>fice at 207-883-4542.For those who may not be familiar with our department or would like additional information about the hiring process,employment benefits, or collective bargaining agreement language, you are invited to attend an orientation night thatwill be held at the <strong>Scarborough</strong> Public Safety Building, 246 Route 1, on Thursday 8/2/12 starting at 1900 hrs.By 7/31/12 we anticipate completing the first review <strong>of</strong> applications and notifying via e-mail those candidates that havesubmitted complete applications meeting all the required documentation and training requirements so that they maytake the written exam which will be <strong>of</strong>fered at the <strong>Scarborough</strong> Public Safety Building on 8/7/12 at 1330 hrs. Pleasebring a photo ID and arrive at least 15 minutes early as the test will start promptly at 1330 and once it begins no oneelse will be admitted. A passing grade <strong>of</strong> 70 is required to move forward in the process.For those who may not be familiar with the Physical Ability Test (PAT) we are <strong>of</strong>fering a practice session at 0930 hrs.on Friday 8/3/12 at the <strong>Scarborough</strong> Public Works facility, 20 Washington Ave. The actual PAT will be held at thesame location on Friday 8/17/12 at 0930 hrs. Candidates that successfully complete the PAT on the practice day donot need to return for the 2 nd day. A description <strong>of</strong> the PAT process is attached. All candidates wishing to practice ortake the actual PAT must bring the Physical Ability Test Process and Release Form with them. The physician’s releaseform must be completed and is required to participate in the practice PAT. It will be kept on file for the actual test day.The form must be signed by a licensed physician in advance (no exceptions) and must be signed by the candidate onsitein the presence <strong>of</strong> a <strong>Scarborough</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> <strong>Department</strong> representative. Please bring a photo ID and wear comfortableclothing including long pants and work boots or shoes. No shorts or sneakers are allowed.The application materials, which include training certificates and assorted documentation as well as the results <strong>of</strong> thewritten test and PAT, will be used to establish an oral board interview list. The Oral Board interviews will be held on8/22/12 and will consist <strong>of</strong> the Human Resource Director, a member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Scarborough</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Fire</strong>fighter’sAssociation, and two respected members <strong>of</strong> the local fire service community from outside the <strong>Scarborough</strong> <strong>Fire</strong><strong>Department</strong>.
