For the nextfive years till her liver transplant operation in January2011 when her 24-year-old nephew donated a part ofhis liver to her, life was a blur of hospital visits, loss ofconsciousness and chemotherapy.“We were very worried about our mother because shewas in a very bad state,” says Win Win, her daughter.“We did not expect my mother to recover. It has broughtus a lot of hope.”“In the end, life isabout the journey andexperience. I am deeplygrateful to the doctorsfor their help.”Although Madam Kyaing was hesitant to undergo theprocedure because she “accepted that it was her life”,her family eventually persuaded her that it was the onlyway to survive.“I wasn’t afraid because of my Buddhist beliefs,” sheexplains. “But I am thankful to my family for standingby me.”These days, she busies herself at home in Mandalay doingcharity work and living an active life.“In the end, life is about the journey and experience,” shesays. “I am deeply grateful to the doctors for their help.”42 Special Feature
