Head Coach Bart OsborneBart Osborne became the head coach of theUnion College baseball program in July of 2003,making him the seventh person to hold the postsince the sport was reinstated at the school in1974.Osborne has compiled a 214-89 record duringhis first five seasons at Union, making himthe winningest coach in program history. Herecorded pair of 48-win seasons in 2006 and2008 to set the program record for wins in aseason. In addition, the Bulldogs have posted a74-34 record in Appalachian Athletic Conferenceplay under Osborne and won the 2006Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament.Union reached new heights in 2007 as it wonthe NAIA Region XII Tournament for the firsttime in program history and hosted the SouthCentral Super Regional. In 2008, Osborne took the Bulldogs even further as Unionwon its second NAIA Region XII championship in a row and won the NAIA SouthCentral Super Regional to advance to the Avista-NAIA World Series for the first time inprogram history.The Bulldogs went 1-2 at the 2008 NAIA World Series to place fifth.During his tenure, Osborne has produced one NAIA First Team All-American andnine NAIA All-American Honorable Mentions, 15 NAIA Region XII All-RegionTeam players, 19 First Team All-Conference selections, the 2006 Appalachian AthleticConference Player and Freshman of the Year and the Appalachian Athletic ConferencePitcher of the Year in 2005 and 2008. In addition, Union had a player named the NAIAPlayer of the Year once in 2006 and a pitcher named the NAIA Pitcher of the Weektwice in 2005. The Bulldogs have placed 24 players on the Academic All-ConferenceTeam and seven have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.Under Osborne, Union has also had one player to be drafted in the Major LeagueBaseball First-Year Player Draft while a total of five Bulldogs played professionally.Prior to coming to Union, Osborne spent the past six years as an assistant coachat Murray State University. While there, Murray State made postseason tournamentappearances every season and won the 2003 Ohio Valley Conference tournamentchampionship. In addition, Murray State has produced 19 All-Conference teammembers, broken 16 offensive school records and raised it conference winningpercentage from 39 percent to 51 percent.Before coaching at Murray State, Osborne spent three seasons at Southeast MissouriState University as an assistant, was the head coach at Kirby High (Tenn.) School fortwo years and served as a graduate assistant at Delta State (Miss.) University for twoseasons.He received his Bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University and hisMaster’s from Delta State. Osborne played at Roane State (Tenn.)
