Bulldog Coaching StaffBULLDOG BASEBALLAssistant Coach Adam HinesAdam Hines is in his fifth year as the assistant coach of the <strong>Union</strong> <strong>College</strong> baseball team,serving as the team’s pitching coach.The Bulldog pitching staff has flourished under Hines as two players have been selected as theAppalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, first in 2005 and then again in 2008. Also,one pitcher has been drafted in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft under Hines.In 2008, as <strong>Union</strong> made its first-ever NAIA World Series appearance, the Bulldog pitchingstaff set program records for innings pitched (499.1), strikeouts (71) and shutouts (11) while eightindividual season pitching records were either tied or broken.During the 2004 season, he first with the Bulldogs, <strong>Union</strong> had one of the top pitching staffs inthe NAIA. The Bulldogs rated in the top 20 in seven of nine pitching categories. <strong>Union</strong> rankedfourth in Team ERA (3.03), 10th in Strikeouts Per Game (6.14), 14th in Total Strikeouts (356) 19thin Walked Batters Per Game (2.71), 13th in Runs Allowed Per Game (3.84), 17th in Total RunsAllowed (223), and 11th in Hits Per Game Allowed (6.88).Prior to coming to <strong>Union</strong>, Hines spent the four years (2001-04) as the head baseball coach atSoutheastern Illinois <strong>College</strong>. In all, he spent five seasons on the coaching staff at Southeastern Illinois as he spent the 2000 seasonas an assistant.The Evansville, Ind. native is a 1993 graduate of North High School. Hines then went on to pitch two seasons at SoutheasternIllinois, where he received his Associates Degree in Science in 1995. From there, he continued his playing career at Murray State(Ky.) University, pitching two seasons for the Thoroughbreds. Having earned his degree in 1998 from Murray State, Hines served asa student assistant coach in 1998 and as a graduate assistant in 1999.Hines is married to the former Heather Jones of Indianapolis, Ind., and the couple resides in Barbourville.Assistant Coach Bobby SegalBobby Segal is entering his second season as a member of the <strong>Union</strong> <strong>College</strong> baseball staff.During his first season with the Bulldogs, <strong>Union</strong> tied the school record for wins in a season ingoing 48-18 while also winning the NAIA Region XII and NAIA South Central Super Regionalchampionships as it made its first-ever Avista-NAIA World Series appearance.Prior to coming to <strong>Union</strong>, Segal spent much of 2007 working in the Cincinnati Redsorganization by splitting time in Cincinnati and the Sarasota Reds, an minor-league affiliate of theReds. During his time with the Reds, Segal working in the baseball operations department andassisted with advanced scouting and helped with pre- and post-draft operations.A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Segal received his bachelor’s degree in sports marketing/manangement from Indiana University in Bloomington. He was a four-year member of theHoosiers’ varsity baseball team and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times.Segal spent five seasons working for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians. From 2000-02, he servedas a bat boy and worked as a member of the grounds crew during the 2003 and 2004 campaigns. Inhis first year with the team, the Indians defeated Memphis in the Triple-A World Series.In addition, Segal was a game operations intern for the Indiana Pacers in 2005 as well as travelling across the country with anentertainment company called the ZOOperstars in 2005 and 2006.Segal is single and resides in Barbourville.18 • <strong>Union</strong> <strong>College</strong>
