eports to the Deputy Clinical Director of the Medical DiagnosticsDirectorate who reports to the Clinical Director. There is a LaboratoryGeneral Manager and a departmental Head of Service BiomedicalScientist, departmental Quality personnel and a Health and SafetyManager in accordance with CPA requirements.Each Consultant has an annual Appraisal and review of <strong>Job</strong> Plan.Annual and study leave will be co-ordinated with the Clinical Head ofDepartment/General Manager. Annual leave must be notified andagreed with the Head of Department at least 6 weeks before leave istaken and approved by the Deputy Clinical Director or Clinical Directorof the MDS Directorate. Cross cover arrangements will be put in placefor on-call as appropriate and leave between the existing chemicalpathologists and the successful candidate.The current consultant Chemical Pathologists are on-site on Antrimand Causeway Laboratory. The appointee for this post will be basedon the Antrim site with sessions in Causeway.Clinical activity to be determined by arrangement. Current clinicalinterests of the Consultant Chemical Pathology staff include lipids,diabetes, obesity and nutritional support. General clinical advice onbiochemistry testing to primary and secondary care constitutes asignificant part of clinical activity. The successful candidate may wishto develop special areas of interest in conjunction with CHOD withagreement with the appropriate Clinical Director and Medical Director.Clinical Governance arrangementsThe Medical Director is Dr Peter Flanagan who is responsible foroverall medical issues within the Trust. The Trust containsDirectorates of Medical Specialties, Surgery, Radiology, Pathology andWoman’s and Children’s Services each of which is headed by aClinical Director/General Manager. Clinical sessions allocated bymutual agreement to the successful candidate will be under thedirection of Dr Olivia Dornan, Clinical Director of Acute and EmergencyMedicine. The current Chemical Pathologist has clinical out-patientsessions in cardiac risk/dyslipidaemia management (Antrim) anddiabetes (Causeway site).
