consultation arrangements with another hospital/trust asappropriate.• Develop departmental protocols in conjunction with otherClinicians and professionals within the Trust and from otherhealth care providers. This will require close co-operation withother specialties and hospitals to provide a high standard andcomprehensive range of services.• Responsible for the continuing clinical and professionalresponsibility for patients admitted under his or her care for alocal population. It is also the duty of the Consultant to:-• Keep patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) informedabout their condition;• Involve patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) in decisionmaking about their treatment;• Maintain professional standards and obligations as set outfrom time to time by the General Medical Council (GMC) andcomply in particular with the GMC’s guidance on ‘GoodMedical Practice’ as amended or substituted from time totime.• Participate with colleagues in the Trust’s planning process.• Work collaboratively with other Trusts in keeping with bestpractice, regional strategy and trust policy.• Use Trust wide and departmental computer technology in linewith the Trust’s Information Management and Technologystrategy.• Set, monitor and evaluate quality standards for pathology serviceand ensure that all staff adhere to the philosophy and valuescontained within the quality strategy• Participate in the Clinical Governance process.• Participate in the Appraisal and <strong>Job</strong> Planning process.• The post-holder will be required to agree a job plan with theClinical Director within three months of taking up theappointment. A provisional work programme is enclosed(Appendix A).• The post-holder will be responsible for carrying out any workrelated to and reasonably incidental to the duties set out in their<strong>Job</strong> Plan as:-• The keeping of records and the provision of reports• The proper delegation of tasks• Maintaining skills and knowledge.Version 1.2• Provide a high level of skill and expertise to children/families to6
