Kirsty O'BrienGAP NewsGAP received a welcome donationthis week with the proceeds of an auctionrun by Ipswich Club being donated tothe program.Up for auction was a lovely blackPrimo Uno pup kindly donated by KerryMinnie. The auction raised $2100 in total.GAP would like to thank both Kerry, and the IGRC for their generosity. We would like to remind people thathave dogs on our waiting list of therequirement that dogs be sound andhealthy to enter the program.Unfortunately we are unable to placedogs that have medical problems thatwill affect the dog's quality of life.It can be heartbreaking for ourvolunteers to start working with a dogonly to find out that the dog has aproblem that will prevent it beingrehomed. We request that the dog be checkedover by a vet prior to the dog beingdelivered to the program.Waiting list times are currently inexcess of six months, and it isvery disappointing to have toreturn a dog to an owner afterit has been waiting so long fora place. If a problem is found witha dog, please give me a call on0417 725 684 to discusswhether the dog will beeligible for the program. The most common racinginjuries, including muscletears and hairline fractureswill not cause any futureproblems for a dog living lifeas a pet.But bone injuries affectingthe joints or spine can cause alifetime of pain.It is important to havethese injuries assessed by agreyhound vet before makinga decision about the dog'sfuture.Food suppliedto GAP dogsbyBig DogPet FoodsDesi (Sunracer on the racetrack).
