Secretary's NotesCAPALABAThe GRA has given Capalaba an increasein funding of $9000. The committee is yet todecide how to allocate the extra but all willbe returned to trainers as prizemoney.Local identity Rusty Dillon has concretedthe smoking area. It must have been thirstywork as he and his brother managed to drink24 stubbies after work was completed.The track has returned to perfect conditionafter the area worn by the constant draggingof the lure has been returfed. The club haspurchased a second hand sand machine andthe catching pen will now be done betweeneach race.The club has received a lot of publicityover Radio 4BC lately. This was due to theattendance at Capalaba of Tommy Raudonikisand Peter Dick. The club has received anumber of groups ringing to attend on racedays and use the marquee as a consequence.July 7 at Capalaba will be an appreciationfor Mick Cox's contribution to greyhoundracing and rugby league. The club, inconjunction with Syd Norris, is arranging theday as Mick has not been enjoying the bestof health lately. There should be many leaguegreats in attendance past and present.Keep the day free to come along and joinin the fun. There will be many racecallersthere from the past who will all share inracecalling duties. It should be a good day.GOLD COASTCongratulations to trainer Reg Hazelgroveand the owners of the winning greyhoundCarnage Maker for winning the Eric ThomsonMemorial Maiden series.The 2007 Gold Coast Cup heats will beheld on July 25, with the final on August 1.This will be a night meeting.Prizemoney will be $25,000 to the winner.We will also be running a Stayers Cuprace over the 650m distance on the night ofthe final.Membership fees are due on July 1. Newmembers are more than welcome to come tothe office to pick up a membership form.Members fees will be $66 including GST.IPSWICHIn memory of his long-time friend AlbertMartini, Rick Fall has donated $500 to beused as additional prizemoney for a raceseries. The heats of this series will take placeTuesday July 3 over 431m for 4th-5th gradedogs. The final will be run on July 10.The final is also a QDog Bonus race and,combined with the additional prizemoneyprovided by Rick, this is a very attractiveseries.Speaking of the QDog series we havebegun programming our bonus races. We willbe sharing the sprint distances over the 520and 431 metre trips.The bonus races are clearly marked in therace calendar and we ask owner and trainersto support these incentive races.Nominations are now being received forthe 2007 Highland Smash Repair PuppyAuction. Owners and Breeders are asked toforward nominations to the club as soon aspossible as we would like to start cataloguingthe lots.Breeders should take note that due to pastdisputes, vaccination cards must be suppliedfor all lots on the day of the Auction. If nocard is available on the day the lot will bescratched. If you require any furtherinformation on the Auction please do nothesitate to contact the club.August is just around the corner and willsee the second running of our Corporate $$$Night on Wednesday August 14.The highlight of the night will be therunning of the final of the Corporate $$$Night Challenge this year sponsored byDowntown Toyota. On offer to the Companysponsoring the winner of the final will be thenaming rights to our winning post for 12months.As the Exhibition Wednesday is theAugust 15 this is a good opportunity to havea night out.We continue to fine tune our website andthank those who have provided us withfeedback since its launch.CAIRNSWith the Cairns Cup fast approaching, wehave had a few enquiries about camping atour track. Yes, camping facilities are availablefor caravans for people wishing to stay.There is also outside kennels, hot showers,fridge and freezer facilities available fortrainers.One little girl was so happy recently whenher dog Sooty won. The excitement this fiveyear old generated among owners andtrainers, it was just wonderful to be there onthat night. Thank you Andy for such a lovelydog. Congratulationsto Mick Boody on his success in both the cupand maiden finals.Over the past couple of months we haveseen an increase in the number of dogs in thearea and the quality has improvedsignificantly. We also have a few new trainerswho are very active in all areas of the club.Early July sees our 31st anniversarymeeting which includes the 10th ColleenJackson Memorial race over 541m. Colleenwas leading lady trainer here for many yearsand was active in the club as much as possibleuntil she lost her battle with cancer in 1997.This race continues with joint sponsorshipfrom Wayne and Joanne Hedrick and familyand Colleen's children Michelle and JohnBrider, Russell Jackson and Michael andLeanne Jackson and their families.Once again I would like to thank everyonefor their support and let's hope we cancontinue to move forward.John Brider (President)Black dog, Oct '02, 32.5kg.
