73Please check with the receptionist for found items.Visitors to <strong>College</strong>HCT students interact with the faculty and staff <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> on a daily basis butmay also interact with a number <strong>of</strong> guests, vendors and other <strong>College</strong> visitors. HCTis concerned that all individuals whom students meet are properly authorized toenter the campus. To ensure proper security for our students, security personnelare stationed at each gate to allow those who are authorized to enter.The Security staff at the <strong>College</strong> entrances are appointed by the Director <strong>of</strong> the<strong>College</strong>s and have the right to stop anyone from entering the <strong>College</strong> withoutproper authorization. The security check is also required to prevent femalestudents from leaving the <strong>College</strong> without proper permission. Students andguardians must show proper respect for the security staff. Any violation <strong>of</strong> theseprocedures may subject the student to suspension, probation or dismissal fromthe <strong>College</strong>. Security personnel have the right to carry out random checks onstudent and/or staff vehicles.STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICESStudents must seek management permission before inviting any visitors to thecollege.Safety and EvacuationA safety plan exists to ensure that students and staff know the proceduresto follow in the event <strong>of</strong> an emergency. This plan is available in the LearningResource Centre. A team <strong>of</strong> staff members have been trained in emergencyprocedures and will take charge in an emergency.Students must be familiar with the procedures for evacuation. Procedures alongwith maps showing the location <strong>of</strong> the designated safety zones are located atevery exit. If the fire alarm sounds:➲➲Do not attempt to put out a fire. Follow your instructor out <strong>of</strong> the building orproceed quickly to the nearest exit. Do not carry anything except your purse.➲➲Assemble at the nearest designated safety zone. Remain there until you hearthe fire wardens give the “all clear”.➲➲Do not stand close to the building.➲➲Follow any instructions given to you by an instructor.➲➲Once the “all clear” is given, walk back to your classroom.We wish you all a safe, successful, and enriching year!
