Incentive Measures andEcosystem ApproachIncentive MeasuresNational Biodiversity Mainstreamingand Institutional Consolidation Project– PROBIO IIThe Biodiversity Mainstreaming andInstitutional Consolidation Project– PROBIO II will promote incentivemeasures by implementing thecomponent 1 (Mainstreaming Biodiversityinto Select Public Sectors). Thiscomponent of PROBIO II amounts US$33.4 million, of which US$ 8.4 millioncorresponds to a donation by the GlobalEnvironment Facility (GEF) and theremaining US$ 25.0 million to resourcesprovided by the Brazilian Government.Under this component, the project willsupport preparation of sectoral plans thatincorporate biodiversity managementpractices. It will seek strategies forincorporating the objective of biodiversityconservation and sustainable useinto policies, programs, projects, anddevelopment plans throughout differentlevels of government activity. Thiscomponent involves cooperation with anumber of government agencies whosesectors have a significant impact on, anduse of, biodiversity, including agriculture,fisheries, forestry, water resources,health, and technology.This component will be implementedthrough two subcomponents: (1.1)planning and refinement of publicsectoral policies and policy instruments,and (1.2) sectoral activities incorporatingbiodiversity mainstreaming applied at anational level.Activities financed under subcomponent1.1 will include an assessment ofbottlenecks and alternative solutionsfor biodiversity mainstreaming in thepublic sector; studies for biodiversityvaluation; studies to develop andevaluate incentive measures for theadoption of biodiversity conservation andsustainable use as fundamental issuesacross the public sector, including, forexample, carbon values; consensusbuilding with stakeholders; and,development of sector plans with policyrecommendations.
