Examples include incorporationof biodiversity-friendly techniquesinto livestock management practices,sustainable use of native species,sustainable agro-forestry development,and models to manage health risks fornative wildlife. The expected result ofthis work will be a series of lessonslearned from the practical application ofa portfolio of mainstreaming tools thatcan then inform the future discussion ofbiodiversity mainstreaming in Brazil andelsewhere.Ecosystem ApproachWithin its principles and guidelinesregarding the specific objectives ofmanaging ecosystems, the NationalPolicy for Biodiversity indicated theuse of an ecosystem approach. Thisapproach will also be used in the GEF’s“Conservation and Management ofPollinators for Sustainable Agriculturethrough an Ecosystem Approach” project,which is nationally coordinated by theMinistry of the Environment and by FAOin international context.76
