Therefore, rebalancing the flywheels is recommended when S&Sconnecting rods are used in stock replacement applications. We realize that rebalancing is an inconvenience, but we did not want to sacrifice rod strength for convenience’s sake. Inaddition, given the variations in stock and aftermarket components available to engine builders, flywheel rebalancing is a desirable step in any major engine overhaul.All S&S mainshafts for Harley-Davidson® Sportster® models are designed for use in flywheels with tapered mainshaft holes. <strong>1986</strong>-later stock flywheels have mainshafts which aremanufactured as an integral part of the flywheel.S&S pinion shafts for <strong>1986</strong>-’03 Sportster models are the splined <strong>1986</strong>-'87 style.
