MANAGEMENTCOMMITTEEINTRODUCTION2009 was the Club’s Centennial Year and atruly memorable one for all involved in itsyear-long celebratory activities. With thegenerous support from members, sponsorsand staff, $218,000 was raised for DoverPark Hospice, an amount which exceededthe Club’s original target of $100,000. In2010, the Club has adopted a “Go Green”theme to do its bit for the environment,hence this Annual Report is produced in aCD-Rom format.The highlights and major achievements ofthe Club, together with the Statement ofAccounts for the year ended 31 December2009 are presented in the ensuing pages ofthis report.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe much-awaited $16 million Arrival Pavilion was completedin April. A warming ceremony was held on 28 April andthe 8-metre high sculpture “Soaring to Greater Heights”was unveiled. On this auspicious date, the Arrival Pavilioncommenced operations.On 23 May, “Laps for Charity”, a swimmathon-cum-carnivalwas organized. Members of the Management Committee,Club swimmers, as well as ex-National Swimmers all took theplunge for a good cause. The carnival lasted the whole daywith games, sports demonstrations, lifestyle performancesand a water telematch.4 November marked another milestone for the Club asDeputy Prime Minister & Minister for Home Affairs, MrWong Kan Seng, officially opened the Arrival Pavilion. Thiswas followed by the much-anticipated Centennial CharityDinner held in Man Zhu Café. Reaping from months of hardwork in the preparation for the special night, the café wastransformed into an elegant dinner venue that feted morethan 200 important guests. With the combined efforts fromvarious Committees, the Club’s management and staff, aswell as members, the Club managed to raise the amountexceeding its target, making the event a truly fitting finalefor its Centennial Year.Following the opening of the Arrival Pavilion, the integrationof a new Card Access System was an exercise undertakento enhance members’ exclusivity of access to the Club’sfacilities. Members were informed and given time for theirnew Membership Proximity Card collection. From 1 October,all access points in the Club were fully activated.In 2009, the Club transacted a total of 209 membershiptransfers for the year and collected $1,014,000 in transfer fees.As at 31 December 2009, the strength of Principal Membersnow stands at 8,802.Despite the economic crisis in 2009, staff turnover and highercosts of maintenance, the Club turned in a respectable netsurplus after depreciation and tax of $761,487.On 23 November, an unprecedented number of 13 staffwere awarded the Excellent Service Award (EXSA) at the NUSCultural Centre Hall. The Club garnered one Superstar award,two Star awards, four Gold awards and seven Silver awards.The Club applauds these 13 staff for their continuous effortin rendering quality service to members.6

REDEVELOPMENTCOMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONWith the completion of Phase2 of the Club’s redevelopmentproject, the RedevelopmentCommittee’s focus will shift torevitalising and rejuvenating theRecreation Complex in Phase 3 ofthe Redevelopment Project.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe Arrival Pavilion obtained its Temporary OccupationPermit (TOP) on 7 April.With the exception of the 4th level, all facilities within theArrival Pavilion commenced operation with a ceremony forthe unveiling of the sculpture “Soaring to Greater Heights”by Club President, Mr Edwin Lee on 28 April.The Arrival Pavilion was completed within the approvedbudget of $16 million. The facilities at the Arrival Pavilioninclude the following:FIL will commence operations of its new spa at the Club byApril 2010.As reported during the 94th Annual General Meeting, theClub learnt during the construction of the Arrival Pavilionthat the current boundary walls shared with our neighboursat 19 and 23 Amber Road respectively have encroached ontothe Club’s land. While the Committee was able to resolve thematter quickly with our neighbour at 23 Amber Road, thediscussion with the owner of 19 Amber Road is still on-going.Nevertheless, the Committee hopes to regularise the matteras soon as possible.• Front Office, waiting and reading area at the spacious andair-conditioned main lobby;• Reading cum Study Room that overlooks the SportsComplex and its swimming pools;• Tung Lok Classics Restaurant that has a seating capacity ofapproximately 200 persons offering a panoramic view ofboth the Recreation Complex and Sports Complex;• The Club’s Administrative Offices.On 4 November, the Arrival Pavilion was officially openedby Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, MrWong Kan Seng. The official opening was followed by theCentennial Charity Dinner which culminated a year-longcelebration of the Club’s 100th Anniversary.The Club’s effort to find a suitable and established spaoperator for the 4th level of the Arrival Pavilion finallypaid off with the signing of the Tenancy Agreement withFabulous Image Lifestyle (FIL) which operates a chain ofbeauty and spa outlets locally. We are pleased to report that8

LOOKING AHEADFollowing the completion of the Arrival Pavilion, theRedevelopment Committee has started to work witha few consultants on the design concepts for thenext phase of the Club’s redevelopment project, i.e.the upgrading of the Recreation Complex. To reapeconomies of scale, the Committee also intends toinclude some improvement works for the SportsComplex in this final phase of redevelopment ofthe Club.Barring any unforeseen circumstances, theRedevelopment Committee will present the planand budget for Phase 3 of the Club’s redevelopmentat the upcoming 95th Annual General Meeting toseek members’ approval to proceed with the work.APPRECIATIONI would like to thank all members of theRedevelopment Committee for their assistance onthe projects and for their invaluable professionalcontributions throughout the year. MEMBERSHIP RELATIONSCOMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONThe year had been an eventful onefor the Committee as it continuedto attend to miscellaneousmembership matters. For theyear ending 31 December 2009,169 new members joinedthe Club through third partymembership transfers.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARAs at 31 December 2009, the Club had on record 7,936Ordinary Members, 109 Associate Members, 757 LifeMembers, 15 Term Members, 4 Junior Term Members and1 Corporate Member. Excluding Spouse Members, JuniorMembers, Child Members and Child Term Members, ourmembership strength now stands at 8,802. For the year2009, 74% of the Club’s registered Junior Members whowere eligible for conversion were admitted as eitherOrdinary or Associate Member. In total, these conversionsincreased the total strength by 130. Simultaneously, 32members were withdrawn from the membership registerupon death, non-payment of Club dues or resignation.as a guest if he/she has not been registered as a Junior orChild Member.In 2009, the Club received 209 applications for membershiptransfers; of which 169 transfers were to third parties, 32transfers were from Principal Members to their childrenand 8 transfers were from Principal Members to registeredspouse upon death. A total of $1,014,000 transfer fees werecollected from transfers to third parties.The Club introduced the Card Access System in Mayand members were issued with new membershipcards for the enhanced facilities. Till date, more than 6,000members had already collected their new membership cards.In October, the Committee has also organised a networkingsession for our Term Members at Three Bars.The Club has also continued its effort to send out reminderletters to members to register their child as Junior or ChildMembers when they turn 12 years of age. According to theClub’s Constitution, the child would have to be admitted10

REGIONAL NETWORKINGCOMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONFor the year 2009, the Committeekept an active schedule to expandthe network of regional clubs,hotels and retail establishmentsfor members. As at 31 December2009, members would haveenjoyed privileged access to 11Reciprocal Clubs, 10 Affiliate Clubsand preferential rates at 13 hotelsin the region.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARG House, Hua Hin, ThailandMembers planning for a relaxed getaway would find GHouse a pleasant choice. G House is a modern style hotelin Hua Hin that offers value-for-money stay in a tranquilarea. Golf enthusiasts would also be delighted by its newestgolf course that was transformed from a lush jungle andpineapple plantations.APPRECIATIONI would like to take this opportunity to thank theCommittee members for their contributions despite theirbusy schedule.Holiday Inn, MalaccaThe Committee also initiated preferential rates from HolidayInn, Malacca; the city’s newest hotel with an unrivalled viewof the Straits of Malacca.Other HighlightsThe Committee has also brought members exclusive ratesfrom CTC Holidays for various vacation destinations.For sports enthusiasts, 10 & 10 Sports Trading in BrasBasah Complex continued to offer discounts on its array ofproducts to CSC members. Adding on to the list was theinclusion of Li-Ning Sports. FINANCECOMMITTEEOVERVIEW OF FINANCIALPERFORMANCEActual vs BudgetedAs compared to the 2009 budgetwhich projected a deficit of $2.77m,the 2009 actual surplus after taxof $760K represented a positivevariance of $3.5m. The major factorswhich contributed to this positivevariance are as follows:Despite the poor economic outlook, Fruit Machine performancewas better than expected with a net surplus of $3.3m against abudgeted $1.9m resulting in a positive variance of $1.4m. Themain reason for the budget variance against actual was the muchanticipated competition from the Integrated Resorts (IRs) thatdid not materialise in 2009 due to the delay in the completion ofthe two IRs.Income from Entrance/Conversion/Transfer fees in 2009 was $1.56mas we experienced a V-shape recovery from the global financialcrisis. This was higher than our budgeted figure of $1.18m yieldinga positive variance of $380K.Job Credit Rebates from the Government Stimulus Packagehad given us a windfall of $340K reflected in the MiscellaneousIncome account.Sports & Games registered a lower deficit of $400K comparedwith a budget deficit of $625K resulting in a positive variance of$225K. Course fees collected was $240K above our budget asmore members signed up for courses in Swimming, Table-tennis,Taekwondo and Tennis.Lifestyle & Flex Gym registered a lower deficit of $56K comparedwith a budget deficit of $206K giving rise to a positive varianceof $150K. Income collected for Lifestyle & Flex Gym programmeswere higher than budget because of increased participation frommembers. Expenditure was lower than budget because of thechange in venue for the Senior Members’ Luncheon event to ManZhu Café which helped to lower costs by $43K.Food & Beverage accounted for $45K of positive budget variancefrom a budget deficit of $219K against actual deficit of $174K in2009 due to better control on operating costs.Club premises expenditure was $535K lower than budget duemainly to the following 2 factors:LOOKING AHEADWith the opening of the Integrated Resorts (IRs) and the proposedPhase 3 redevelopment project (i.e. The Additions & Alterationswork planned for the Recreation Complex) in 2010, we anticipatethat takings from Fruit Machine operation will be greatly affected.On top of that, with the gradual withdrawal of the GovernmentResilient Stimulus Package, a budget deficit of $2.9m in FY2010is projected notwithstanding a $620K is to be derived fromrental income.The Club will continue to exercise prudence in capital/trainingexpenditure that will enhance the Club’s operational efficiency,increase customer satisfaction and improve our service qualityso as to increase members’ satisfaction level and spending withinthe Club. HUMAN RESOURCECOMMITTEEINTRODUCTION2009 saw Singapore’s economy sliding intorecession. While the Committee monitorsstaff cost very closely in relation to the Club’sperformance, the Committee continuesto lend its support in staff developmentand integration programmes to promoteservice excellence. The Committee hopesto develop a quality workforce to providethe best customer service experience to ourmembers. It is therefore important for theClub to demonstrate its commitment to its“members come first” mantra by maintainingcompetitive staff remuneration to keep themmotivated to provide a high level of service.When the economy recovers, the Club will bebetter equipped to meet its objective of beingan “Employer of Choice” among other Clubs.MANPOWER STATISTICSThe Club’s average operating staff strength for 2008 and2009 were 162 and 167 (including part-timers) respectively.Total payroll cost in 2009 increased as compared to 2008. Asthe increase was in the form of variable payments awardedto staff from the Singapore Government Jobs CreditScheme, the long-term cost competitiveness of the Club wasnot affected.The increase was attributed to the following:• An increase in overall payroll amounting to 1.5%.• The employer’s CPF cost also increased correspondinglywith the increase in the salaries cost.Ms Aileen An (Membership Relations) with one Star award.Samantha Eng, Alethea Tan and Jennifer Tan (MembershipRelations) and Mohamed Sofian (Sports & Lifestyle) eachwon a Gold medal in 2009. New entrants, Steven Chew,Edmund Lee, Low Sheau Chiou, and Terry Ng (F&B), YapGeok Kee (Properties), Ng Woon Yang and Alan Tan (Sports& Lifestyle), each won a Silver medal in 2009. We commendthese staff for their dedication to providing quality service toour members.The Club also made a commitment towards the TripartiteAdvisory on the Re-employment of Older Workers. Therevised re-employment policy was implemented in 2009.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe Club celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2009.Throughout the year, our staff were drawn into theplanning, co-ordination and running of the variousCentennial events. We applaud their good team spirit andtheir conscientiousness in making the year a successfuland unforgettable one. This success is proof of our staff’scommitment towards the Club.We are also proud to report that in the area of serviceexcellence, the Club’s staff have outdone themselves bygarnering one Superstar, two Stars, four Golds and sevenSilvers at the Annual Excellent Service Awards 2009. Mr LouisToh (Membership Relations) won both Superstar and Starawards, an improvement over his Gold award in 2009 andLOOKING AHEADLooking forward, with the upcoming inaugural YouthOlympics and Integrated Resorts creating new employmentand training opportunities, it is crucial that the Clubcontinues in its effort to motivate, engage and retain its staff.Besides competitive remuneration and benefits, effectivestaff retention and development strategies, the Committeeand the Club Management seek to strengthen its level oftrust and commitment towards staff.Trust and commitment are important factors in establishingand maintaining long-term relationships. Greater emphasisshould be placed on measuring staff commitment levelswithin the Club. The Committee and Club Management willexplore more effective ways of communicating benefit plans14

that will further develop our staff’s appreciation,trust and commitment for the Club.In terms of workplace health programmes,greater emphasis will be placed in the newterm to promoting a healthy lifestyle andsports activities. HOUSE & GROUNDSCOMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONIn the first quarter of 2009, theHouse & Grounds Committeereviewed and discussed numerousfeedback and suggestions frommembers covering housekeeping,security and safety aspects of theClub’s operations and maintenance.Follow up action and improvementwork were carried out whereverpracticable to ensure membersand their families enjoy a pleasant,conducive and safe environment inthe Club.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAROpening of the Arrival Pavilion For OperationsBesides being actively involved in the co-ordination ofMechanical & Electrical Installation and all other essentialservices at the new Arrival Pavilion, the Committee workedclosely with the Redevelopment Committee in the transitionand handing over of the new Arrival Pavilion for operationsin April 2009.Implementation of Electronic Security SystemsThe Committee successfully completed some majorimprovement and upgrading works on the ElectronicSecurity System comprising of the Door Access and ElectromagneticLocking Systems, additional CCTV coverage andinstallation of fences to prevent unauthorised access via thevarious exits/entrances of the three complexes.As the Arrival Pavilion was newly opened, the Committeetook the opportunity to tighten the security of the Club byintroducing the Electronic Security System at its entrancesand staircases once the Arrival Pavilion became operational.The Committee also monitored members’ feedback and wishto thank members for their support and giving their thumbsup to this improved security system to maintain exclusivityfor all members and their families. However, co-operationfrom all members is essential so as not to unnecessarilycreate loop-holes for the Club’s newly implementedsecurity system.Landmark Sign To Enhance Club’s VisibilityA new landmark sign bearing the Club’s corporate logo hadbeen installed on the perimeter wall at the entrance of theSports Complex in November 2009 to heighten the Club’svisibility along Amber Road.Additional Poolside FurnitureDue to the shortage of seats at the poolside, additionalpoolside furniture with umbrellas were also purchased tocater to the growing demand for seats by the poolside.Open Tender Exercise For Security ServicesThe Committee would like to report that an open tenderexercise was conducted in September 2009 and the awardof the security services contract went to the currentcontractor, Reachfield, as their tender price was the mostcompetitive received.LOOKING AHEADThe Committee will continue to review and monitorexpenditure on the Club’s maintenance and repair to ensurethat the Club premises are well and optimally maintained.Additional Door Access and Electro-magnetic LockingSystems, including additional fences will be implementedin the second leg of work for the Recreation Complex totighten the Club’s security and to reduce incidence ofunauthorised access into the Club.The Committee will also be working closely with theRedevelopment Committee to minimise disruption to theoperations and facilities at the Recreation Complex when theClub embarks on Phase 3 of its Redevelopment project i.e.Additions and Alterations work for the Recreation Complexin the later part of 2010.16

FOOD & BEVERAGECOMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONAs we emerge from a toughrecession year in 2009, I amhappy to report another year ofsatisfactory results for the Club’sF&B operations.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARDespite the challenging economic situation, wehave managed to sustain patronage with a 1% rise inrevenue to just under $2 million. Gross profit margininched up to 57% from 56% thereby enabling a 1%improvement in gross profit to $1.12m. Despite risingrepair and maintenance expenditure (up $30,000*) forthe aging equipment/furniture, overall operating deficitwas reduced by $20,911. After accounting for expiredlevies, the F&B Section ended the year with a deficit ofjust $93,141 against a projected shortfall of $219,316.* Not inclusive of operating assets write-offMan Zhu CaféMan Zhu Café achieved satisfactory results for the year. Salesrose by 3% to $1.76 million as our earlier efforts towardsimprovement in food and service quality paid off. A recentmembers’ survey on the Club’s F&B standards indicated ahigh level of satisfaction. However, operating deficit (afteraccounting for expired levies) increased by $35,000 as aresult of an almost doubling of repair and maintenanceexpenditure for the aging kitchen equipment.As part of our ongoing commitment towards service quality,we recently introduced a wireless call button system. LIFESTYLECOMMITTEEINTRODUCTION2009 had been a busy andfulfilling year for the LifestyleCommittee as we ushered intothe Club’s 100th year celebrations.Besides planning events to raisefunds towards the Centennialcelebrations, many new activitiesand programmes were introduced.We also seen a steady growth in ouron-going activities.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe Spring Festival Celebration held on 31 January at theopen area near the Koi Pond at Sports Complex attracted abig crowd filled with festive spirits. The event started with theGod of Wealth distributing bags of oranges to all memberspresent wishing them a prosperous year ahead. This wasfollowed by the award-winning show where the lion leaptand danced on poles, followed by a dragon dance, as wellas “Face-changing”, also known as “Bian Lian” in Chinese. Thefinale was the lion dance team with their impressive “CaiQing” performance accompanied by the drums. The eventended with the lion dance team presenting the scroll to theClub’s President.For the “Laps for Charity” event, the Ladies Sub-Committeeplayed their part by getting vendors to set up merchandiseand food stalls to raise funds for the Club’s nominatedbeneficiary, Dover Park Hospice.The Senior Members’ High Tea (SMHT) was held at Man ZhuCafé on 7, 8, 14 and 15 October. This annual affair attracted844 Senior members and their registered spouses. Memberswere treated to a sumptuous buffet spread accompanied bystrollers singing the evergreen songs.Ladies Sub-CommitteeCulinary workshops continued to rank top in 2009. ThePasta Lovers workshop conducted by Chef Roy of Delifrancereceived an overwhelming response, prompting us to openanother session. The on-site cooking demonstration by ourtenant, Tung Lok Classics drew an encouraging crowd of 38participants. Other workshops such as Local Snacks Making,Durian Sensation, Chef Recommendation and Tempura Feastwere also very well received.The Ladies Sub-Committee also organised an Aqua Fun &Fit programme, which attracted a healthy attendance of 27participants. In addition, the Beauty and Grooming workshopalso received a good turnout of participants.22Youth And Family Sub-CommitteeThere was great improvement for the Youth and Family Sub-Committee. The Children’s Ballet class was introduced with anencouraging number of participants. In addition, the Sectionalso organised two overland trips this year. The Durian Fiestatour held in June and the Desaru and Fireflies tour held inNovember attracted 41 and 37 participants respectively.

Educational workshops continued to prove popular with ourmembers. This was reflected in the high enrolment rate forthese workshops held during the March, June, Septemberand November school holidays. An outdoor trip to Societyfor Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was organised inJune, which attracted a good turnout of 15 participants.Our annual Children’s Lantern Party continued to drawgood response from members. In total, 50 kids and theirfamilies turned up for this event, basking in the mid-autumncelebration. 32 children learned Fingerprint Art at theArty Christmas Party held on 20 December. They were alsoentertained with games and a magic show. The childrenleft home happily after receiving presents from Santa Claus,together with the goodie bags they had gotten at the startof the event.Exercise and Leisure Sub-CommitteeThe Exercise and Leisure Sub-Committee had done well for2009. New activities such as Belly Dance, Rhumbarobics andTaiji Quan 24 Movements were introduced and attracted anexcellent participation rate. The on-going activities remainedstrong with Hatha Yoga being the most sought-after activityout of all the other exercise programmes.Members of the Karaoke class also did their part for charityby performing at the “Laps for Charity” event and organisinga charity manicure to raise funds for Dover Park Hospice. Inaddition, they also performed at Henderson Community Club,a charity event organised by the Lions Club International.The Annual Exercise Get Together Dinner was held at RolandRestaurant located at Marine Parade on 6 February. In total,60 members attended the dinner accompanied bysumptuous food, entertainment and lucky draws.Social Dance Sub-CommitteeThe social dance parties held quarterly remained verypopular among the dancing enthusiasts. The Line DanceParty held in September also generated a healthy attendanceof 115 participants. Current enrolment for ballroom andline dancing classes remained very high. We are pleasedto mention that members of the line dance class had alsoshown their support for charity by performing at the “Lapsof Charity” event.The Social Dance Sub-Committee would continue to workhard towards attracting more members to come forwardto support the Saturday Social Dance night. The 2009 YearEnd Count-down Party was well received with a turnout of180 participants. Dressed like their favourite Hollywood/Bollywood stars, members and guests had enjoyed theevening with a sumptuous eight-course Chinese dinner,plenty of dancing and a performance by Karen Lim of localmovie “881” fame. Our very own line dancers also put up aBollywood number, followed by a dance performance byour tenant, The DanceSport Academy. EXERCISE & LEISURESUB- COMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONThe Exercise & Leisure Sub-Committeehad done extremely well for the year 2009.With the increased rate of participation,the Sub-Committee had to start moreclasses in order to satisfy the veryactive members.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAROne good example would be the expansion of the Pilatesclass from one morning class to two morning classes andone evening class. The most popular exercise class was HathaYoga. Three out of four Yoga classes were fully enrolled,including the Saturday Yoga class conducted in bothEnglish & Mandarin. There was an increase in the number ofparticipants for Bodyworks Aerobics and H.A.B.T Programmefor Women.The other on-going classes and activities – ChineseCalligraphy, Taiji Quan Advance, Chinese Brush Painting,Taiji Qigong and Taiji Chen Style continued to receive strongsupport from the loyal participants of the various classes.The Exercise & Leisure Sub-Committee also embarkedon three new activities – Belly Dance, Rhumbarobicsand Taiji Quan 24 Movements. These 3 classes had beenfully enrolled.The Karaoke Singing Class had maintained a participationrate of 24 members. These members did their part for charityduring the “Laps for Charity” in May 2009 by performingtwo melodious tunes, organised a “Charity Manicure” whichwas held in the Club to help raise funds in conjunctionwith the celebration of the Club’s Centennial Year, and alsoperforming at Henderson CC, a charity event organised bythe Lions Clubs International.Under Leisure, a Photography Workshop was organised forthe members and it was well-received. YOUTH & FAMILYSUB- COMMITTEEINTRODUCTION2009 saw encouraging progress andnew development for the Youth &Family Sub-Committee. We are glad thatthe activities organised this year hadbeen very well received by membersand guests.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe Children’s Ballet Class was launched on 28 February witha good turnout of 10 children ranging from 3-4 years of age.The participation rate had remained consistently strong overthe months. Members were happy with the quality of theclass and the professionalism of the ballet teacher.Workshops that promote creativity, logical thinking andproblem-solving skills remained the hot favourite during theschool holidays. The Super Brain Olympic and Toy Inventionworkshops received a good turnout of 10 participantsduring the March school holidays. The Alien Science andRobo Tranzformer workshops had a good attendance of14 and 15 participants respectively during the Septemberschool holidays.The Youth & Family Section also organised outdoor trips tothe Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), as wellas to Johor Bahru for durian feasting during the June schoolholidays. There was a healthy attendance of 15 participantsand 41 participants respectively. A one-day trip to Desaruwas organised in November and received tremendousresponse. The feedback from members and guests werepositive and they expressed interest for such outdoor tripsto be organised more frequently in the future.The parent and child bonding workshop also proved tobe very popular among our members. This was reflectedin the attendance for the Sushi and Japanese Steam Eggmakingworkshop held on 27 September. We received anoverwhelming response of 20 participants with many moreon the waiting list.The Annual Children Lantern Party held on 26 Septemberattracted 50 kids to the open area next to the Great BubbleReef. The evening consisted of moon-cake making, puppetperformance, children’s ballet performance and games. Bothadults and children enjoyed the evening basking in the midautumncelebration.During the festive season, 32 kids attended the ChildrenChristmas Party on 20 Deccember. At the party, the FingerArt workshop was conducted and there were games as wellas presents given out by Santa Claus. Conducted by Chef Roy Loh fromDelifrance, it attracted a total of 50 participants, and thus 2classes had to be organised to satisfy the pasta lovers.The Ladies Sub-Committee also organised the On-siteCooking Demo @ Tung Lok Classics which was held in theClub. Despite being conducted on a week-day afternoon,the response was overwhelming with the presence of38 participants.Other culinary workshops which were organised were theLocal Snacks Making Workshop, Durian Sensation, Chef’sRecommendation and Tempura Feast. SPORTS & GAMESCOMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONThe celebration of 100 years of sportingexcellence was no doubt the focal point of2009. Various Sections contributed to thefund-raising effort for Dover Park Hospice byorganising charity events in commemorationof the centenary. The Tennis and Table TennisSections held invitational tournaments, theBadminton Section conducted the “RonaldSusilo Training Camp” and the Golf Sectionwent the furthest by organising our largestcharity golf game in the last decade. Thehighlight was the “Laps for Charity” whichinvolved swimming legends from pastand present, all taking the plunge for aworthy cause.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARWe maintained our stature as a top swimming club byholding on to the Junior Interclub crown and capturing thelong-awaited Open Midget title. Unfortunately, we couldnot defend the ASEAN Cup for the fourth consecutive time,narrowly missed out on a clean sweep of interclub agegroup competitions.Swimming Championships. At the World Championshipsheld in Rome, Mylene Ong helped to re-write the National4 x 200m Freestyle relay record. She was again part of thequartet that bettered the same record at the SEA Games,contributing to one of her two relay Golds. Koh Ting Tingperformed admirably to achieve a Bronze at the FINA/ArenaSwimming World Cup and Cheryl Lim also marked her SEAGames debut with a Silver.The forward-looking Badminton Sub-Committee continuedto grow the sport aggressively. Chinese sports equipmentgiant Li Ning came on board to sponsor the inaugural ChineseSwimming Club – Li Ning Badminton Doubles (Invitational)Championships with $70,000 worth of products.In National meets, CSC came in second overall in both the40th Singapore National Age Group (SNAG) SwimmingChampionships 2009 and the 5th Singapore NationalSwimming Championships (SNSC) 2009. Lionel Khoo wasin the limelight once again after he re-wrote the NationalUnder-14 records for 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke.Internationally, it was an excellent year for our swimmers.Koh Hui Yu was part of the golden quartet that broke theNational record for the 4 x 100m Freestyle relay at the 1stAsian Youth Games. She later won two Bronzes in her SEAGames debut. Jeremy Tan clocked five personal bestsand took home six medals from the 33rd SEA Age GroupThe extremely popular Chinese Swimming Club AgeGroup Badminton (Invitational) Tournament attracted anoverwhelming response for the fifth year running. Theweek-long event saw more than 1,000 shuttlers sweat it outfor honours in 16 different categories. Main sponsor C&TSports Trading – distributor for Protech, Proace and Apacs –strongly supported this tournament along with co-sponsorBrother International.An influx of new Section members revitalised the mature Golffraternity and sparked off new concepts. Section mainstays– Patrons’ Cup, Annual Golf Championships and ChristmasGolf Bash – as well as the Monthly Medals continued tobind our golfers. The Annual Dinner gathering was also heldfor the second year running, with great success. The moreadventurous made the annual pilgrimage north and toXiamen in search of golfing haven. We also clinched our firstever victory at Kelab Golf Batu Pahat’s arduous course in theannual bilateral.28

Contract Bridge enjoyed a fruitful year, winning the eightteamPremier Bridge League. Numerous games andcompetitions were also held for the Section. The Subcommitteesaw a change in leadership when Mr Eric Luk,who had helmed the community for many successful yearsstepped down for Mr Sng Tze Cheow to assume Convenorship.Youth development was in full steam for the Bowling Section,with the youth team’s record-breaking achievements in 2008being the catalyst. The number of youth bowlers has beenincreasing at a steady rate and the future definitely looksrosy. Defending the extremely competitive Youth Interclubtitle was the greatest challenge and unfortunately the teamdid not succeed. Nonetheless, the bowlers persevered andbattled till the end. The Section would face greater challengesin 2010, with the Club entering the Adult Interclub Leagueand hosting the Youth Interclub Bowling Mixed League. I amsure the Section would be geared to pick up the gauntlet.Attracting and nurturing youth players was also high onthe agenda for the Water Polo Sub-Committee. Flippa Ball(modified version of Water Polo targeted at the young) trialswere held to create awareness. The trials were a hit with ourchildren and hopefully more would choose to pursue thesport competitively. A new coach was also brought in to raisethe level of performance among CSC players.Another two Sections committed to youth developmentwere Table Tennis and Tennis. The Youth Table Tennis TrainingProgramme, which was started in 2008, has gatheredmomentum and started to bear fruits. The Annual TableTennis Championships was participated by players as youngas eight years of age. CSC continued its partnership with theSingapore Table Tennis Association to co-host the CSC/STTATable Tennis Championships for the eighth straight year, witha record number of participants no less.With the aim of helping budding Tennis players realisetheir potential, the John Seol Tennis Academy Systemwas engaged. The Annual Singles Championships wasvery well-participated through all the various age groups.The Under-12 category was also created for the firsttime. Having grown steadily over the past few years, theTennis Section was able to form two Singles teams andfour Doubles teams for the STA Interclub League. It wasthe highest number of teams ever in the Section’s history.Faced with a slightly different challenge was the TaekwondoSection. As the trainees progressed through the grades, theyinevitably dropped out after attaining the black belt. Thus,the Sub-Committee placed much emphasis on retainingtrainees while promoting the sport among adults throughthe Combat-robic Programme. Traditionally participated bythe youths, we hope that adults would also pick up the sportas a form of exercise.title on a countback. However, therehas been a growth in the number of players, which is anencouraging sign. The Section participated in the NationalSquash League in three categories – C, D and Veteran II, andwould continue to make this their priority in the near future.LOOKING AHEADWe will strive to be at the forefront of sporting excellenceat Club, National and International level. The welfare ofgeneral members engaging in sports for recreation will notbe neglected as well, as we will make our best effort to keepthe facilities in tip-top condition.The close relationships we have forged with fellow sportsclubs both in and out of Singapore are important to us, andwe will treat every bilateral event with great respect. SWIMMINGSUB- COMMITTEEHIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARMatching 2008’s achievement of winning two of thethree major interclub meets, CSC defended the JuniorInterclub title and captured the elusive Open InvitationalMidget Meet hosted by the Singapore Swimming Club.Unfortunately, we relinquished our grasp on the ASEANCup despite putting up a great contest. With just onechange in the coaching staff, our programme remainsvery stable and effective. Having a familiar environmentwould certainly lessen the stress faced by our swimmers inthis era.45 swimmers were selected through the CSC MultipleAge Group Swimming Meet to defend the ASEAN Cupfor the third consecutive year, this time at the SingaporeSports School. Pitted against a formidable team from theSwimfast Aquatic Club, our swimmers had their work cutout. Led by Rainer Ng and Quah Ting Wen, Swimfast were just too strong for CSC despite our best efforts. Although we lostout in terms of gold medals (30 versus 47), we won more medals in total (106 versus 93) and our swimmers Koh Hui Yu andJeremy Tan provided some joy by winning the Best Performer titles for their age groups.Next up was the Singapore Swimming Club’s Open Invitational Midget Meet. Having enjoyed little success in this meet overthe past few years, maximum effort was put into preparing the team for this year’s challenge. The children were put throughalmost two months of intensive training, guided by dedicated Sub-Committee members and coaches. When the big dayarrived, they ended years of disappointment by clinching a convincing win over 13 other local and regional clubs. ZacharyTan and Maximillian Ang added to that by garnering the Best Performer awards for their age groups. It was certainly one ofthe highlights of the year.The Club’s swimmers ended the year by successfully defending the Junior Interclub Swimming Championships title, our 15thtriumph in the competition’s 25-year history. It was also our first back-to-back win since 1995. Before the competition, theforecast was gloomy after the start list was announced. However, with astute changes in strategy and proper preparation,Team CSC overturned that forecasted deficit and emerged as Champions by a comfortable margin. It was another greatperformance by our swimmers in the face of adversity.In national meets, CSC was second to Swimfast Aquatic Club in both the 40th Singapore National Age Group (SNAG) SwimmingChampionships 2009 and the 5th Singapore National Swimming Championships (SNSC) 2009. In the SNAG, our swimmerswon 39 Gold medals. Lionel Khoo re-wrote the National Under-14 records for 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke, betteringhis own marks in the 100m and 200m events. With qualification for several major events at stake, our swimmers participatedin the SNSC and were selected to represent Singapore in the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships 2009, 6th Asian AgeGroup Swimming Championships 2009, FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup 2009 and the 25th South-east Asian Games 2009.On the international front, our swimmers fared reasonably well. At the 1st Asian Youth Games, Koh Hui Yu was part of thegolden quartet that broke the National record for the 4x100m Freestyle relay. Lionel Khoo also tasted success with twoBronze medals. Jeremy Tan brought home six medals, five of them personal bests, at the 33rd SEA Age Group SwimmingChampionships. Koh Hui Yu, along with Mylene Ong, Koh Ting Ting and Cheryl Lim, gained valuable experience whenthey competed in the World Championships held in Rome, swimming against the world’s elite. Mylene Ong helped to rewritethe National 4x200m Freestyle relay record. Jeremy Tan snared one Bronze at the Asian Age Group in Tokyo, whereJoshua Ling also won two Bronzes. In the finale to 2009, Koh Ting Ting put in a good performance to achieve a Bronze atthe FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup. In spite of their tender age, SEA Games debutants Cheryl Lim and Koh Hui Yu tastedsuccess by winning one Silver and two Bronzes respectively. Mylene Ong also clinched two relays Golds, an outstandingperformance overall.30

We also collaborated withnew sports brand powerhouse Li NingSports to organise the inaugural ChineseSwimming Club – Li Ning BadmintonDoubles (Invitational) Championships.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe Ronald Susilo Badminton Training Camp was organised in Marchto raise funds for the CSC Centennial Charity. It attracted 26 youngparticipants and raised $1,500 for Dover Park Hospice. C&T SportsTrading kindly sponsored a T-shirt each for the participants.The Club hosted the Official Launch of the Aviva Open Singapore2009 Super Series in April. Among the participants were top honchosfrom Aviva and SBA, national players from the past, present, andfuture as well as members of the media.CSC Badminton Team Challenge was held in May and attracted 42members ranging from 14 to 70 years of age. The winners receivedprizes sponsored by C&T Sports Trading.The Singapore Badminton Association selected our Club as the AvivaOpen 2009 official practice venue in June for the second successiveyear. In return, the Club was given a full-page advertisement in thetournament’s official magazines that were distributed to the playersand supporters of all the 28 participating countries.The CSC Age Group Badminton Championships was held in June for44 young members to display their array of abilities and tenacity in6 different age categories.The Badminton Section welcomed the prestigious Royal BangkokSports Club (RBSC) in August for a friendly match. It was a chance forus to reciprocate the hospitality they had showered us with whenour players visited their Club for the past three years. With newmembers and more youths on board,we hope that the renewal process wouldgather pace.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARIn the main event on our calendar – the National SnookerLeague – we maintained our challenge on two fronts. Thegoing was much tougher in the Premier Division. CSCMetallica, led by myself, finished fifth in the table. We haddefinitely hoped to put up a better performance in 2010.CSC Titanium, with Captain Daniel Tan in charge, did well inDivision One. Finishing with the same points total as TeamWarren 1, we had to concede top spot on countback. It wasvery disappointing but a valiant effort to defend our DivisionOne crown.For the non-competitive players, we organised half-yearlygatherings to celebrate the Chinese New Year and NationalDay. With fun-filled games and challenges, everyone had achance to prove their ability on the tables. To wind downthe year, the annual in-house tournaments were held. For2009, the 8-Ball, 9-Ball and Snooker events were contested.Youngster Aloysius Yapp impressed by winning the 8-Ballwhile Steve Chua and Alan Ng clinched the 9-Ball and Snookertitles respectively. The year culminated with the annualdinner, where the awards for the in-house tournaments werepresented. This year’s dinner was held on “home ground”, thenewly-opened Tung Lok Classics.LOOKING AHEADWith the standard of local Snooker rising and the NationalPool League on the horizon, we certainly need to unearthmore talents to keep CSC competitive. BOWLINGSUB- COMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONThe year 2009 proved to be a successfuland memorable year for the BowlingFraternity in CSC.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe Monthly Medals which were also the qualifying eventsfor the Annual Bowling Championship, remained popularamong the Section members. An average of 20 Sectionmembers participated in each monthly event. Eventually,24 bowlers qualified and competed in the Annual BowlingChampionship 2009 held on 3 January 2010 with Mr KelvinKoh claiming both the Men’s and Overall Championshiptitles and Ms Cheritta Low picking up the Ladies’Champion title.Although the youth team did not manage to retain thechampionship title in the 10th Inter-club Youth Bowling MixedLeague 2009, it was heartening to see that the competitivespirit was very much alive when the youths went all out tooutdo their opponents despite the seniors still having toguide the juniors along the way. Some future talents wereeven spotted among juniors. With more experience undertheir belt, we can certainly look forward to their success withgreat optimism.We had a close fight during the 12th CSC-SIAGSC AnnualBilateral Games where we were on par with our long-timerivals after the first five games. MrMustaffa Lim eventually emerged as Champion.The CSC Centennial Charity Golf Tournament 2009 wasorganised at the Tampines Course of Tanah Merah CountryClub on 24 June and the Golf Section managed to raise $34kfor Dover Park Hospice.The highlight of the year was the 17th Annual GolfChampionships held at Tanah Merah Country Club on 12January 2010. SQUASHSUB- COMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONThe Squash Section had a relativelyeventful year with good responsefrom the activities organised by theSquash Sub-Committee. The SquashSection continued to thrive with thethrice-weekly Section trainings, witheach session enjoying good turn-outand Section membership held steadyin 2009.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARNational Squash League (NSL) 2009 was organised bySingapore Squash Rackets Association (SSRA) from 18February to 9 June. The annual league attracted CSC Squashenthusiasts to take part in three event categories, namelyMen’s C, D and Veteran II. Our players displayed great zestand sportsmanship while striving for glory and eventuallyachieved encouraging results.CSC Squash Clinic cum Section Night was held on 27November. The Clinic was conducted by two Squashprofessionals, Ms Low Wee Wern (World Number 35 andBritish U19 Champion) and Mr Elvinn Keo (World Number116 and SEA Games Champion). Our players took this greatopportunity to learn more about the latest squash techniquesand drills and also got a chance to spar with the pros.LOOKING AHEADThe Sub-Committee hopes to attract more players to take aninterest in the game by organising training programmes forinterested members. We also aim to organise more variedactivities like overseas trips to sustain the interest of currentSection members. TABLE TENNISSUB- COMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONThe Section’s strength continues toincrease tremendously with the youngtrainees in the Table Tennis YouthProgramme. Our paddlers have alsoachieved good results in both nationaltournaments as well as internationalcompetitions.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe Table Tennis team played a friendly match with LangleyCenter Ping Pong Club, California on 17 February at theAuditorium which provided a good get-together andbuilding on the existing friendship between the two clubs.The Club hosted the CSC/STTA Table Tennis Championshipsfor the eighth consecutive year with the support of SingaporeTable Tennis Association (STTA) and Sin Ten Trading from30 May to 5 June. A new record was set this year, withparticipation for all the Singles events increasing by morethan 100% from year 2008 while the Veteran Team eventattracted 11 teams.The CSC Table Tennis Sub-Committee hosted the CentennialTable Tennis Charity Championships in conjunctionwith the Club’s Centennial Celebrations. A total of 12teams participated in this charity event. This memorabletournament was held from 6 to 7 June at the Auditorium.Special mention goes to Eric Fong Joon Ho, Cheong SookKok, Eng Kim Chooi and Rafael Soh for coming in Joint thirdand donated the winning prize money to the nominatedbeneficiary – Dover Park Hospice.The Annual Table Tennis Championships 2009 were heldfrom 20 to 29 October where 32 players aged rangingfrom as young as 8 to 75 years took part in this memorableChampionships. TAEKWONDOSUB- COMMITTEEINTRODUCTION2009 was a year for strengthening andbuilding on what we had achieved inthe past years. The focus was placed intoattracting new trainees, retaining thosewho have attained their black belts and topromote the Combat-Robic Programmefor adults.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe CSC Taekwondo Section continued to do its part for thecommunity by hosting the quarterly supplementary gradingat the Club’s Auditorium. The grading sessions were wellattended by exponents from CSC and other clubs.members, staff from Sports & Lifestyle Department andthe parents for their unfailing commitment throughoutthe year. They have certainly contributed to the success ofthe Section.The Taekwondo Camp cum Annual In-house Games washeld from 14 to 15 March which turned out to be the CSCTaekwondo Section’s most fun and exciting event in thehistory. A total of 17 trainees from various ages and beltstook part in the camp where they were taught the power ofmental and technical skills in Taekwondo. As for the AnnualIn-house Games, a total of 22 trainees from various gradesand ages competed against one another through severalstations where their fundamentals in the martial art weretested and scored. From speed to techniques, it was a funyet immensely challenging event for them.LOOKING AHEADOur emphasis in the new year will be on recruiting newtrainees and nurturing them. We will endeavour to create aconducive environment for their practice sessions and buildtheir character through diligence and discipline. TENNISSUB- COMMITTEEINTRODUCTIONThe focus of 2009 is on the youths,with many activities and competitionorganised with them in mind. To developtheir potential, John Seol Tennis AcademySystem was appointed as the Club Tenniscoaching provider.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe CSC Singles Championships attracted 41 membersthis year, ranging from nine to 71 years of age. Tan Wei Jinand Margaret Lee took the Men’s and Ladies’ Open titlesrespectively while Koh Chee Hua retained his Men’s Veterancrown. The top Under 17 Boys’ was Andrew Chan whileChristopher Mak won the first Boys’ Under 12 competition.To improve the standard of Club Tennis, John Seol TennisAcademy System (JSTAS) was appointed as the coachingprovider in March. JSTAS conducts programmes for studentswho aspire to achieve excellence through tennis and offersprogrammes specially tailored for students of all levels frombeginners to professional/top level players.Two teams were registered to take part in the STA Inter-clubSingles League as well as the Doubles Knockout while fourteams were sent for the STA Inter-club Doubles League.This was made possible due to the expanding base ofClub players.To commemorate the Club’s Centennial Celebrations,the Tennis Sub-Committee invited five clubs with overone hundred years of existence for the Centennial TennisInvitational Tournament. Kohup Sports Pte Ltd kindlysponsored the CSC Centennial T-shirt as souvenir for allplayers. CSC came up runners-up.The CSC Tennis Team Challenge was held over a Sunday and36 players joined in the fun in the sun. The Section AnnualDinner preceded the Challenge and all Section Memberswere invited with their family members as a gesture ofappreciation for their continuous support.LOOKING AHEADThe Section hopes to build a strong base of new players torepresent the Club in the future. WATER POLOSUB- COMMITTEEINTRODUCTION2009 was another fruitful year for theSub-Committee while it continuedthe work of reviving the population ofWater Polo players in CSC. As part ofthe recruitment programme, the FlippaBall, a junior version of Water Polo wasintroduced to the members for thefirst time.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARYear 2009 was a good year for the Water Polo Section as theskills of our players were brought up to the next level underthe professional guidance of our new coach, Mr Lee SaiMeng. He is also a coach for the Singapore Women’s WaterPolo National Team.To promote and cultivate interest among the junior Clubmembers, the Water Polo Sub-Committee held a CSC WaterPolo Flippa Ball Trial over the weekend on the 5 & 6 September2009 at the CSC beginner’s pool. This junior version of WaterPolo is a fun team game designed to introduce kids of 12years and below, the fundamentals of Water Polo. The eventreceived an overwhelming response on both days withan average of 25 participants for each day. Everyone hadunbeatable fun and the profile of Water Polo in the Club wasraised a couple of notches.LOOKING AHEADThe Water Polo Sub-Committee will focus on the recruitmentof young and talented players to join the team. 乒 乓小 组 委 员 会引 言小 组 的 实 力 随 着 乒 乓 青 年 计 划 的 年 轻受 训 学 员 而 大 幅 加 强 ; 在 全 国 锦 标 赛 和国 际 赛 方 面 , 我 们 的 乒 乓 健 儿 也 取 得 好成 绩 。年 内 重 大 事 项乒 乓 队 在 2 月 17 日 假 礼 堂 与 加 利 福 尼 亚 的 LangleyCenter 乒 乓 俱 乐 部 举 行 了 一 场 友 谊 赛 , 这 提 供 了 一 个 很 好的 聚 会 , 并 加 强 了 宾 主 双 方 现 有 的 友 谊 。在 新 加 坡 乒 乓 总 会 (STTA) 和 Sin Ten 体 育 贸 易 的支 持 下 , 本 会 从 5 月 30 日 到 6 月 5 日 连 续 第 8 年 主 办 了 CSC/STTA 乒 乓 冠 军 赛 ; 今 年 创 下 了 1 个 新 纪 录 , 所 有 单 打 项 目 的参 赛 者 比 2008 年 增 加 了 100%, 宿 将 队 项 目 则 吸 引 了 11 队参 加 。配 合 本 会 的 百 周 年 庆 祝 活 动 ,CSC 乒 乓 小 组 委 员 会 主 办 了百 周 年 会 庆 乒 乓 慈 善 冠 军 赛 ; 总 共 有 12 队 参 加 了 这 次 慈 善义 赛 。 这 项 值 得 纪 念 的 锦 标 赛 是 从 6 月 6 日 和 7 日 在 礼 堂 举行 ; 特 别 值 得 一 提 的 是 冯 俊 豪 、 张 顺 国 、Eng Kim Chooi 和Rafael Soh 得 了 联 合 季 军 , 并 把 赢 得 的 现 金 奖 捐 给 指 定 受 惠机 构 - 托 福 园 慈 怀 病 院 。常 年 乒 乓 冠 军 赛 2009 是 从 10 月 20 日 到 29 日 举 行 , 参 与 这 项令 人 难 忘 的 冠 军 赛 的 乒 乓 健 儿 共 有 32 人 , 从 年 仅 8 岁 到 年 届75 高 龄 不 等 ; 特 别 值 得 一 提 的 是 卓 苇 茗 在 单 打 公 开 组 成 功卫 冕 , 张 顺 国 和 他 的 搭 档 赖 保 顺 夺 得 双 打 公 开 组 冠 军 , 罗 孟宽 也 拿 下 宿 将 公 开 组 冠 军 , 新 秀 公 开 组 冠 军 则 归 许 德 良 。展 望小 组 希 望 吸 引 新 球 员 , 竞 赛 的 和 社 交 消 闲 的 , 都 加 入 本 会 , 同时 以 乒 乓 青 年 计 划 打 好 年 轻 人 的 基 础 。 小 组 委 员 会 也 将 努力 以 确 保 第 9 届 CSC/STTA 乒 乓 冠 军 赛 继 续 成 功 举 行 并 提高 球 员 的 参 与 率 。致 谢本 人 谨 此 要 感 谢 Sin Ten 体 育 贸 易 的 一 心 一 意 支 持 以 及 我们 的 赞 助 人 曾 鹏 海 对 乒 乓 小 组 的 贡 献 ; 本 人 也 要 感 谢 本 乒乓 小 组 委 员 会 诸 委 员 和 体 育 与 时 尚 部 门 员 工 过 去 一 年 来的 任 劳 任 怨 付 出 ; 乒 乓 小 组 委 员 会 也 要 对 体 育 与 运 动 委 员会 、 所 有 会 员 和 他 们 的 家 人 过 去 一 年 来 给 予 我 们 的 全 力 支持 谨 此 表 示 感 激 。报 导冯 俊 豪 先 生 , 召 集 人赞 助 人曾 鹏 海 先 生罗 明 光 先 生委 员张 顺 国 先 生庞 道 才 先 生彭 少 伦 先 生叶 健 汉 先 生林 品 昌 先 生74

跆 拳 道小 组 委 员 会引 言2009 是 巩 固 和 加 强 我 们 过 去 几 年 所 已经 完 成 的 一 年 ; 焦 点 放 在 吸 引 新 受 训 学员 , 留 住 哪 些 已 取 得 他 们 的 黑 腰 带 者 , 并促 进 成 人 的 搏 斗 - 带 氧 计 划 。年 内 重 大 活 动CSC 跆 拳 道 小 组 继 续 通 过 在 本 会 礼 堂 主 办 季 度 补 充 分 级赛 而 对 社 区 尽 了 本 分 。 分 级 活 动 获 得 了 CSC 和 其 他 俱 乐部 代 表 的 热 烈 参 与 。跆 拳 道 营 训 暨 常 年 会 内 比 赛 是 从 3 月 14 日 到 15 日 举 行 , 结果 成 为 CSC 跆 拳 道 小 组 历 史 上 最 乐 趣 无 穷 和 紧 张 刺 激 的活 动 ; 总 共 有 17 位 不 同 年 龄 和 腰 带 的 受 训 学 员 参 加 营 训 , 学习 了 心 灵 力 量 和 跆 拳 道 方 面 的 技 能 。 至 于 常 年 会 内 比赛 , 总 共 有 22 位 不 同 级 别 和 年 龄 的 受 训 学 员 通 过 好 几 个 位置 互 相 过 招 , 以 考 验 他 们 在 武 术 方 面 的 基 本 功 。 从 速 度 到技 术 , 对 他 们 来 说 , 这 是 一 种 既 富 乐 趣 而 又 非 常 有 挑 战 性 的活 动 。展 望新 的 年 头 , 我 们 的 重 点 将 放 在 招 募 新 的 受 训 学 员 和 培 育他 们 。 我 们 将 致 力 为 他 们 的 练 习 活 动 打 造 一 个 有 利 的 环境 , 并 通 过 勤 奋 和 纪 律 塑 造 他 们 的 性 格 。 那 些 有 潜 能 而 且达 到 某 种 高 水 准 的 受 训 学 员 将 被 提 拔 , 以 成 为 参 赛 代 表 或候 补 教 练 员 。致 谢跆 拳 道 小 组 委 员 会 谨 此 要 向 体 育 与 运 动 委 员 会 、 过 去 一年 来 给 予 我 们 充 分 支 持 的 所 有 会 员 和 他 们 的 家 人 表 示 感谢 ; 本 人 则 要 向 跆 拳 道 小 组 委 员 会 诸 委 员 献 出 他 们 的 时 间和 任 劳 任 怨 , 为 受 训 学 员 策 划 所 有 活 动 并 照 顾 他 们 , 谨 此 表示 感 激 ; 本 人 也 要 感 谢 理 事 会 理 事 、 体 育 与 时 尚 部 门 员 工和 家 长 们 过 去 一 年 来 的 始 终 如 一 承 诺 , 他 们 肯 定 已 对 小 组的 成 功 作 出 了 贡 献 。报 导王 能 伸 先 生 , 召 集 人顾 问周 金 辉 先 生委 员黄 信 良 先 生潘 少 坤 先 生林 玉 发 先 生75

网 球小 组 委 员 会引 言2009 的 焦 点 是 放 在 青 年 身 上 ; 一 年 来 举办 的 许 多 活 动 和 比 赛 , 皆 以 他 们 作 为 考量 。 为 了 发 掘 他 们 的 潜 能 , 我 们 委 任 了John Seol 网 球 学 院 系 统 提 供 本 会 网 球辅 导 。年 内 重 大 事 项今 年 的 CSC 单 打 冠 军 赛 吸 引 了 年 龄 从 9 岁 到 71 岁 不 等 的 会员 参 加 ; 陈 伟 锦 和 Margaret Lee 在 此 赛 分 别 拿 下 了 男 女 公开 组 冠 军 ; 许 志 华 蝉 联 男 宿 桂 冠 ;17 岁 以 下 男 冠 归 AndrewChan,Christopher Mak 也 拿 下 12 岁 以 下 的 首 男 荣 衔 。为 了 改 善 本 会 的 网 球 水 准 ,John Seol 网 球 学 院 系 统(JSTAS) 在 3 月 份 受 委 为 本 会 网 球 辅 导 供 应 者 。JSTAS 已为 哪 些 立 志 要 通 过 网 球 取 得 卓 越 的 学 员 举 办 计 划 , 并 特 别为 各 等 级 学 员 从 入 门 到 专 业 / 顶 级 球 员 提 供 量 身 定 做 的计 划 。有 2 支 球 队 报 名 参 加 STA 会 际 单 打 联 赛 以 及 双 打 淘 汰赛 ,4 支 球 队 奉 派 参 加 STA 会 际 双 打 联 赛 , 这 是 由 于 本 会 球员 的 基 础 正 在 扩 大 , 才 有 可 能 办 到 。为 了 纪 念 本 会 百 周 年 会 庆 , 网 球 小 组 委 员 会 邀 请 了 已 超过 1 百 年 的 5 个 俱 乐 部 参 加 百 周 年 会 庆 网 球 邀 请 锦 标 赛 。Kohup 体 育 私 人 有 限 公 司 慷 慨 报 效 CSC 百 周 年 会 庆 T-恤 , 作 为 全 体 球 员 的 纪 念 品 。CSC 此 赛 获 得 亚 军 。有 23 对 球 队 参 加 3 个 组 别 的 CSC 双 打 冠 军 赛 ; 倪 添 发 和Robyn Koh 在 男 子 公 开 旗 开 得 胜 , 女 子 冠 军 则 归 李 娉 眉 和Margaret Lee。 混 双 今 年 恢 复 举 行 , 胜 利 对 为 倪 添 发 和Jennifer Kuah。CSC 网 球 团 队 挑 战 赛 在 某 个 星 期 天 举 行 , 有 36 位 球 员 参 加阳 光 下 的 这 项 紧 张 的 活 动 。 挑 战 赛 前 的 小 组 常 年 联 欢 晚宴 , 全 体 组 员 连 同 他 们 的 家 人 都 应 邀 赴 宴 , 以 表 示 感 激 他 们的 不 断 支 持 。致 谢CSC 网 球 坛 的 生 机 蓬 勃 , 可 归 因 于 所 有 球 员 在 他 们 家 人 祝福 下 的 积 极 参 与 , 对 于 这 点 , 本 人 永 远 感 激 不 尽 ; 此 外 , 本 人 对于 网 球 小 组 委 员 会 和 我 一 起 分 担 举 办 这 一 切 了 不 起 活 动的 工 作 量 , 谨 此 也 要 表 示 感 谢 。报 导蔡 江 青 先 生 , 召 集 人委 员倪 添 发 先 生许 志 华 先 生李 娉 眉 女 士何 家 威 先 生陈 锦 发 先 生展 望小 组 希 望 打 造 新 球 员 的 强 大 基 础 , 以 便 他 们 将 来 可 以 代 表本 会 出 赛 。 小 组 委 员 会 也 打 算 举 办 更 多 球 赛 和 友 谊 赛 , 以供 组 员 分 享 和 建 立 网 络 。76
