About LenCDLenCD is an informal and open network of individuals and organisationssharing a common interest in improving capacity development practice.The network aims to promote and facilitate the sharing of lessons andlearning across organisational boundaries, and to promote changes forbetter practice at the global, regional and local levels. Specifically, it aimsto:• Strengthen evidence and facilitate dissemination of good practice;• Facilitate collective initiatives and processes needed to close “learningloops” and promote change;• Promote integration of CD into mainstream development policy; and• Support regional and local initiatives to help change in CD practice onthe ground.The network emerged as a result of informal networking in the contextof several streams of research efforts, workshops and conferences. Itwas established in Berlin in June 2004. The insight that brought the initialpartners together was that joining forces would not only give visibility tothe issue of capacity development, but also open many opportunities todo more than any individual actor would have been able to do alone.Initially a network of development agencies, LenCD today has a broadconstituency in the South and North, including global initiatives, regionalnetworks and local institutions from government and civil society, bilateraldonors, multilateral agencies and individual practitioners. LenCD bringstogether actors with diverse perspectives in an open forum for reflection,respecting pluralism rather than negotiation for common positions.LenCD initiatives depend on energy from network members and partners,their shared interests and resources. Its initiatives include thematic andregional working groups, development of specific products, vetting ofresearch and policy development, and sharing of knowledge throughonline resources, knowledge fairs and other mechanisms.For more information about the network, please visit www.LenCD.org.Participation in the network is free and open to all.
