As per the assessment done by the<strong>Puri</strong> Municipality the total waste generated in the town per day is about 500 kg per day considering1 kg/day. The bio-medical waste per day is 100 kg, and the domestic waste is currently 400kg perday. The waste is calculated considering the hospital details (Govt. Hospital -6, Public sector-1, andNursing home-3). The generation is going to increase in the town due to increase in population andhealth facilities in the area. Therefore treatment and compost facility development is a requirementwhich is felt with greater importance.8.4.1.7 Details of Existing compost plant in <strong>Puri</strong> town:Under Odisha Environment Programme one compost plant has been developed in <strong>Puri</strong> town in a totalarea over 2hactre with a capacity to treat 100 MT. The system is expected to generate revenue at5% of sales. The project involves windrow dumping of the garbage which is biologically treated withbacterial powder. This treated garbage after different levels of screening is converted to organicmanure. The conversion ratio of garbage to manure is 20%.
