They’ve beentricked by <strong>the</strong> undead knight outside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Keep on <strong>the</strong>Shadowfell.DefeatThe PCs are told that <strong>the</strong>y can find Veira Rimefire in <strong>the</strong>Blackearth Cemetery. See <strong>the</strong> section on that cemeterybelow. It takes two full days to reach <strong>the</strong> remote cemetery,and two days to come back by <strong>the</strong> same method.SpecialFinding Veira is an arduous trial. The usually <strong>the</strong> PCs canonly gain one success a day. If <strong>the</strong> PCs take six days or lessto complete <strong>the</strong> skills challenge (success or failure) <strong>the</strong>ywill still have enough time to return to <strong>the</strong> Keep on <strong>the</strong>Shadowfell, gain important information from <strong>the</strong> remains <strong>of</strong>Sir Keegan by means <strong>of</strong> a Speak with Dead ritual, and makeit to <strong>the</strong> Monastery <strong>of</strong> St. Alabat before Orcus’s agents open<strong>the</strong> seal and take <strong>the</strong> Sun’s Sliver. If it takes <strong>the</strong>m more thansix day, <strong>the</strong> Sun’s Sliver is lost and <strong>the</strong>y will have to confrontKoliada without it.StreetwiseDC 24 (1 success, maximum 6 successes, no more than 1each day). The first few successes lead <strong>the</strong> PCs to peoplewho may know <strong>of</strong> Vox’s whereabouts. Those initial leadshaven’t seen Vox in many years, and don’t remember herbeing particularly powerful, but have information as towhere <strong>the</strong> PCs can continue <strong>the</strong>ir search for <strong>the</strong> wizard.The last success leads <strong>the</strong> PCs to <strong>the</strong> person who killedVox—a tiefling paladin <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Raven Queen named Wrath.He tells <strong>the</strong> PCs that Vox was nothing more than a pettycriminal that he brought to justice when Vox tried to roba pilgrimage. He is sure that Vox could not be <strong>the</strong> <strong>Winter</strong><strong>Witch</strong> or a creature causing so much trouble in <strong>the</strong> world.Bluff, Diplomacy, Insight, Intimidate, or PerceptionDC 27 (0 successes) With a failed Streetwise check, each <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong>se skill checks can be tried once by <strong>the</strong> PC to turn <strong>the</strong>failed check into a success. Through keen insight, carefulnegotiation, finding your way through rough areas to asource that’s willing to talk, <strong>the</strong> PC finds a lead that assists<strong>the</strong>m in discovering more information about Veira.Finding Veira Rimefire Level 24Expanding <strong>the</strong>Skill ChallengeThe skill challenge given above is a very generalabstraction <strong>of</strong> events as <strong>the</strong> PCs search for Veira inGloomwrought. It’s meant to be played quickly.
