The group clamors up<strong>the</strong> stairs to confront <strong>the</strong> threat, aided by <strong>the</strong> shadowravenswarms perched among rocks in <strong>the</strong> area’speriphery.Morthalat does not enter combat at first. He hangsback to protect <strong>the</strong> Engine <strong>of</strong> Lum. He knows he isclose to breaking <strong>the</strong> seal, and he wants to see <strong>the</strong> jobthrough. If <strong>the</strong> PCs approach <strong>the</strong> machine, he fliesover <strong>the</strong> seal and <strong>the</strong> energy produced by <strong>the</strong> Engineto confront <strong>the</strong> PCs, using his reap and fade power toharry <strong>the</strong>ir approach.Features <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AreaIllumination: The lighting in <strong>the</strong> area dependspartially upon <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> day (since <strong>the</strong>se are ruins,<strong>the</strong> buildings are not fully intact).Rubble: The rubble in this area is difficult terrain.Large Debris Pieces: A number <strong>of</strong> large pieces <strong>of</strong>collapsed debris are here. They are typically 20 feettall and serve as blocking terrain only for those whoare not 5 or more squares above <strong>the</strong>m.Stairs: The stairs are steep.
