First order for wave-piercing offshore vessel
Farstad Shipping | Rolls-Royce has announced
the fi rst order for its new wave-piercing offshore
vessel from Farstad Shipping. The visually striking
bow design will enable the vessel to pierce
through waves in extreme weather conditions,
while maintaining constant speed, reducing
fuel consumption and enhancing safety.
The contract includes the vessel design and a
comprehensive integrated power and propulsion
system and equipment package for an
advanced platform supply vessel (PSV). The
contract also includes an option for a second
Heavy duty ships for
arctic waters
P+S Werften | German shipyard
P+S Werften GmbH has been
awarded a contract for fi ve heavy
duty ships for offshore operation
in arctic regions. The vessels of
three different sizes will be built
for the Greenlandic shipping
company Royal Arctic Line A/S.
The newbuildings of arctic
cargo vessel type will be deployed
to supply goods and
basic medical provisions for
Greenland as well as arctic
and antarctic research stations.
To meet this challenge, all
of the vessels have high iceclass
specifi cations, will be
able to carry a large amount
of reefer containers and are
equipped with onboard cranes.
The delivery of the vessels is
scheduled for 2012.
vessel of the same specifi cation and value.
Wave-piercing technology is said to be a proven
technology for high-speed catamarans and
trimarans.
In addition to the new design, Rolls-Royce will
supply Azipull propellers, thrusters, and Bergen
diesel engines. A Rolls-Royce DP2 dynamic positioning
system, which uses satellite technology
to accurately position the vessel, is also included.
This advanced system automatically controls the
propulsors to hold the vessel in position during
safety-critical operations.
