Patrol boat for Latvian navy
Skrunda was recently christened
Abeking & Rasmussen | A
SWATH@A&R-type patrol boat
to be delivered to the Latvian
navy was recently christened at
the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard
in Lemwerder. Skrunda is
the fi rst of a series of fi ve 25m-
SWATH@A&R patrol boats being
built to the design by Abeking &
Rasmussen. In cooperation with
Riga Shipyard, the vessels are
being built in Riga and Lemwer-
Semi-submersible drilling rig
The Atwood Osprey provides accommodations
for 200 persons
Jurong Shipyard | Sembcorp
Marine’s subsidiary Jurong
Shipyard is on track to deliver
the Atwood Osprey – a fi rst of
its class ultra-deepwater semisubmersible
drilling rig – to
Atwood Oceanics following its
recent naming.
Scheduled for delivery within
the next months, the Atwood
Osprey will be deployed by
Chevron Australia Pty, Ltd to
the Greater Gorgon area in
northwest Australia.
& Goldman (F&G) ExD Mil-
lennium Class series built by
Jurong Shipyard, the Atwood
Osprey was specifi cally developed
to meet challenging environmental
conditions on-site
and is a testament to the yard’s
ability to enhance existing designs
and overcome engineering
challenges to meet owners’
requirements.
The Atwood Osprey is the fi rst
of two high-performance semisubmersible
rigs contracted to
Jurong Shipyard by Atwood
Oceanics. The moored rig will
be capable of drilling up to
35,000 feet as well as operating
in water depths of up to
6,000 feet with its own mooring
equipment and 8,200 feet
with pre-laid mooring.
Atwood Oceanics’ second rig
order with Jurong Shipyard,
an F&G ExD Millennium Class
dynamically positioned ultradeepwater
semi-submersible
rig rated for 10,000 feet water
depth, is currently under construction
and is scheduled for
delivery no later than mid-
2012.
der. The new vessels feature a
modular mission bay at the fore
ship. By fi tting appropriate mission
payloads, such as a diving
module or an MCM module, the
capabilities of the vessels can be
enhanced fl exibly.
Skrunda is a compact vessel with
small machinery, low fuel consumption
and a small crew. This
combination is said to offer a
high availability at low life-cycle
costs. Up to eight crew members
can stay for one week at
sea, even under adverse weather
conditions, to fulfi l the main
tasks of the new vessels, which
are patrol and surveillance of
the territorial waters and in the
exclusive economic zone as well
as participation in international
assignments. Since the fender
system of the pilot boats will be
retained, the 25m SWATH@A&R
patrol boats is said to be ideal for
all types of boarding operations.
Contract for PSVs
Ulstein Group | Norwegian Ulstein
Verft has been contracted
to build two medium-sized
platform supply vessels (PSVs)
of Ulstein´s PX121 design for a
newly established company in
the Ulstein Group. The vessels
are 83.4m long and 18m wide.
They have a cargo deck of 875m 2
and load capacity of 4200 dwt.
Both the hull and propulsion
system are reported to have
been chosen to suit the North
Sea and the North Atlantic. The
ships meet the requirements
Technology
centre
R&D | Lloyd’s Register and the
University of Southampton recently
agreed to move forward
with the £116-million fi rst
phase of the university’s technology
and training campus,
designed to provide industry
with technical solutions and
human expertise. Aim of the
agreement is to create a longterm
centre of excellence for
technology, innovation, research
and development and
training based in Southampton.
Among the new facilities
to be built on the university’s
old Boldrewood campus will
be the Lloyd’s Register Group
Technology Centre. Research
activities at the centre will
be co-ordinated with other
projects undertaken by the
group at academic institutions
in cities such as Singapore,
Seoul, London and Beijing.
of Clean Design, and have
treatment systems for ballast
water and are prepared for fi refi
ghting class Fi-Fi 2. Beyond
the usual tanks for oil, water
and drilling fl uids, the vessels
have four stainless steel tanks
for fl ammable liquids such as
methanol.
The ships will reach a speed of
at least 15 knots; however, the
vessels are optimised for low
fuel consumption at a speed of
12 knots. The vessels will be delivered
in Q1 and Q3 2012.
