MusicMrs J RichardsOn <strong>the</strong> 29 th June, an ICTspecialist from CCVGMusic DevelopmentService spent a day runningtwo workshops forYear 7. Over 70 pupilswere led through a series<strong>of</strong> activities using <strong>the</strong>impressive facilities <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> school’s new Ipadroom, where <strong>the</strong>y used<strong>the</strong> Beatmaker2 App <strong>to</strong>record <strong>the</strong>ir group ideas.Rotary concertOnce again this year, <strong>Stanwell</strong> hosted <strong>the</strong>annual Rotary Club competition, wherejunior schools and members <strong>of</strong> our departmentpresented prepared musical items inaid <strong>of</strong> charity. Many thanks <strong>to</strong> all thosewho performed – again <strong>to</strong> such a highstandard – and <strong>to</strong> all pupils and staff whohelped <strong>to</strong> organise and support <strong>the</strong> event.High <strong>School</strong> MusicalThe end <strong>of</strong> a Summer Term in <strong>Stanwell</strong>would not be <strong>the</strong> same without <strong>the</strong> traditionalLower <strong>School</strong> musical! Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cast,crew and orchestra have been working tremendouslyhard. A terrific amount <strong>of</strong> dedicationand work has been put in by teachersand pupils alike. It is an ambitious project,but <strong>the</strong> achievements are spectacular. Massivecongratulations <strong>to</strong> everybody involved,including all <strong>the</strong> backstage and set crew.Pictures <strong>of</strong> some rehearsalsand <strong>the</strong>poster from <strong>the</strong> show.CountyIt is not possible here <strong>to</strong> list <strong>the</strong> individualand impressive musical achievements <strong>of</strong> allour pupils. So many are members <strong>of</strong> Countyensembles, but also an increasing numberinvolve <strong>the</strong>mselves in WNO and NationalYouth projects –from which <strong>the</strong>y benefittremendously. The latest successful applicantsfor County membership are: AlexWhitfield (Year 7) – High <strong>School</strong>s’ BrassBand; Tomas McSorley (Year 7) – High<strong>School</strong>s’ Choir; Robert Cavaye (Year 11),Alasdair Cavaye (Year 10), Rebecca Te-Water Naude (Year 10), Thomas Sharpe(Year 8) and Imogen Sibert (Year 10) wereall successful in <strong>the</strong>ir audition for <strong>the</strong>County High <strong>School</strong>s’ Orchestra; Ella Maxwelland Thomas Tur<strong>to</strong>n (both Year 12)have been accepted in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Youth Choir;Robert Cavaye has also been accepted in<strong>the</strong> Youth orchestra and Ray Vandyck(Year 8) will be joining <strong>the</strong> Youth WindBand. Very well done <strong>to</strong> all.HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL — “an ambitious project, but <strong>the</strong> achievementsare spectacular”.
