PsychologyMiss K HallAS PsychologyThe Department bids farewell <strong>to</strong> a number <strong>of</strong>excellent students this year. Congratulations<strong>to</strong> Malita Chimuzi on winning <strong>the</strong> PsychologyAward. Malita has been an excellent studen<strong>to</strong>f Psychology, achieving a very high standardin all her examinations so far and demonstratingan enthusiastic and conscientious attitude<strong>to</strong> learning. She is looking forward <strong>to</strong>studying Psychology at University next year. Anumber <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r students are also intending <strong>to</strong>continue <strong>the</strong>ir Psychology studies at University(Jordan Holt, Emily Price, Roxanna Rohbani-Eivazi and Matilda Shepherd) and we wish<strong>the</strong>m and all our Year 13 students <strong>the</strong> best <strong>of</strong>luck for <strong>the</strong> future.Next yearThe Department is looking forward <strong>to</strong> welcominga new member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> staff <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> school nextterm.We are also continuing our commitment <strong>to</strong> increasing<strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> ICT in lessons and next yearwill have access <strong>to</strong> a department set <strong>of</strong> lap<strong>to</strong>ps.This will allow students more opportunity <strong>to</strong>work independently on <strong>the</strong>ir own projects andhave access <strong>to</strong> internet resources during all lessons.Year 12 students have recently returned <strong>to</strong>school after working on <strong>the</strong>ir Welsh Baccalaureate.During this time a number <strong>of</strong> studentscarried out investigations in<strong>to</strong> variousaspects <strong>of</strong> Psychology. For example AmyPalin produced an excellent piece <strong>of</strong> workcomparing <strong>the</strong> treatment <strong>of</strong> schizophrenia inWales and China. O<strong>the</strong>r students investigated<strong>to</strong>pics such as childcare, forced marriage andeating disorders. Students are now in <strong>the</strong> process<strong>of</strong> designing <strong>the</strong>ir own Psychology experiments<strong>to</strong> be carried out over <strong>the</strong> summer holidaysand <strong>the</strong>n written up and analysed in September.Many different <strong>to</strong>pics are being exploredand we look forward <strong>to</strong> seeing <strong>the</strong> resultsnext term.A2 PsychologyAno<strong>the</strong>r development for next year is <strong>the</strong> introduction<strong>of</strong> Health and Social Care at AS Level.The course is designed <strong>to</strong> give students who areinterested in a career in Health, Social Care orEarly Years services an introduction <strong>to</strong> some <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> knowledge and skills <strong>the</strong>y will need workingin <strong>the</strong>se areas. The course covers a variety<strong>of</strong> <strong>to</strong>pics such as communication skills and promotinggood health. Students will be visited bya number <strong>of</strong> Health, Social Care or Early Yearspr<strong>of</strong>essionals as well as having <strong>the</strong> opportunity<strong>to</strong> visit a range <strong>of</strong> services.“The Department bids farewell <strong>to</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> excellent students”
