Nature of the WSD• White spot disease (WSD) is a highlycontagious viral disease of penaeidshrimp (family Penaeidae),characterized by the rapid onset ofhigh levels of mortality in farmedshrimp populations.• Outbreaks are preceded by cessationof shrimp feeding followed within afew days by the appearance ofmoribund shrimp at the edge ofponds and then mass mortality.• WSD has exhibited panzootic behaviorin Asia and the Americas.Pictures: M.Afshrnasab
