Information About Spray PressureFlow RateNozzle flow rate varies with sprayingpressure. In general, the relationshipbetween GPM and pressure is as follows:GPM 1 EDDF______ PSI 1= ______GPM 2 EDDF PSI2This equation is explained by the illus trationto the right. Simply stated, in order to doublethe flow through a nozzle, the pressure mustbe increased four times.Higher pressure not only increases the flowrate through a nozzle, but it also influencesthe droplet size and the rate of orifice wear.As pressure is increased, the droplet sizedecreases and the rate of orifice wear increases. The values given in the tabulation sectionsof this catalog indicate the most commonlyused pressure ranges for the associated spraytips. When information on the performanceof spray tips outside of the pressure rangegiven in this catalog is required, contact theAgricultural Division at Spraying Systems Co.®Spray Angle and CoverageDepending on the nozzle type and size, theoperating pressure can have a significanteffect on spray angle and quality of spraydistribution. As shown here for an 11002flat spray tip, lowering the pressure resultsin a smaller spray angle and a significantreduction in spray coverage.Tabulations for spray tips in this catalogare based on spraying water. Generally, liquids more viscous than water producerelatively smaller spray angles, while liquidswith surface tensions lower than water willproduce wider spray angles. In situationswhere the uniformity of spray distribution isimportant, be careful to operate your spraytips within the proper pressure range.Note: Suggested minimum spray heights for broadcastspraying are based upon nozzles spraying waterat the rated spray angle.11002 @ 15 PSI11002 @ 40 PSI0.12 GPM0.2 GPM11002 @ 15 PSI90°18936911002 @ 40 PSIPressure Drop Through Sprayer ComponentsComponent Number3GPM5GPMTypical Pressure Drop (PSI) at Various Flow Rates (GPM)7GPM8GPM9GPM10GPM15GPM18GPM32GPM189110°AA2 GunJet® 2.0 5.3 10.0 16.0AA18 GunJet 5.0 13.0 25.0 40.0AA30L GunJet 14.0AA43 GunJet 1.0 2.0AA143 GunJet 0.9 1.7 3.5 7.9AA6B Valve 0.5 1.2 1.7 2.2 2.9 7.8 12.2AA17 Valve 1.5 2.5 3.5 4.0 5.0 11.5 16.0AA144A Valve 1.5 2.5 3.5 4.0 5.0 11.5 16.0AA144A-1-3 Valve 5.0AA145 Valve 5.0344BEC-24-C Valve 5.0529Pressure Drop Through Various Hose SizesFlowin GPMPressure Drop in PSI (108 [3 m] length without couplings)1/49 I.D. 3/89 I.D. 1/29 I.D. 3/49 I.D. 19 I.D.0.5 1.4 .21.0 .71.5 1.4 .42.0 2.4 .62.5 3.4 .93.0 1.24.0 2.05.0 2.9 .46.0 4.0 .68.0 .9 .310.0 1.4 .4TECHNICAL INFORMATION175
