Drop Size ClassificationNozzle selection is often based upon dropletsize. The droplet size from a nozzle becomesvery important when the efficacy of a particularplant protection chemical is dependent oncoverage, or the prevention of spray leavingthe target area is a priority.The majority of the nozzles used in agriculturecan be classified as producing either fine,medium, coarse, or very coarse droplets.Nozzles that produce fine droplets are usuallyrecommended for post-emergence applications,which require excellent coverage on the intendedtarget area. The most common nozzles usedin agriculture are those that produce mediumsizeddroplets. Nozzles producing medium- andAIXR <strong>TeeJet</strong>® (AIXR)PSIcoarse-sized droplets can be used for contactand systemic herbicides, pre-emergencesurface-applied herbicides, insecticides andfungicides.An important point to remember when choosinga spray nozzle that produces a droplet size inone of the six categories is that one nozzle canproduce different droplet size classifications atdifferent pressures.
