Bayreuth, too, listened toa new Wotan – a Fascist councilman – thundering againstJewish participation in the city‟s fairs of horse and grain.The intelligence spread like wildfire through Nazi headquartersthat the government of the Socialist Hermann Muellerwas in serious danger. The People‟s Party, which underGustave Stresemann had been safely harnessed to the chariotof the republic, began to balk at the distasteful task and threatenedto upset the arrangement. Out the Nazi emissarieswent to reconnoitre the field of operations and they cameback with beaming faces. The Populists, always friendlyto capital, were determined not to saddle large incomes withadditional taxation.
